Household isolation rules for under 5s in Scotland

So confused about the different rules on self isolation in different parts of the UK. Confused

Is it correct that in Scotland under 5s are exempt from self isolation even if they live in the same household as someone who has Covid? I can't find anything at all about that on the Scot gov website, but eventually found this link after googling which suggests so - but I have no idea whether it's out of date. They make it so difficult to find accurate information.

I believe they would still have to isolate, close contact same households have to isolate for 10 days.

I don't think the info in the link is right. I know that same website had Facebook posts up a few days ago that were wrong. The official rules in scotland are that everyone in the house has to isolate regardless of having tests. There is something about under 5s if you are a 'non-household contact' though. I will try to attach pic.

If you look at the nhs inform site it tells you when to self isolate. I would assume since there is no exemption for age that means under 5s are included.

TrundlingAlong · 03/01/2022 08:08

That's what I originally thought, but that link I found above says "everyone in the household over 5". But it's not dated as far as I can see, so I don't know if it's up to date or not.

There is no age exemption if you're a household contact:

f you're a household contact of someone who has tested positive you should self-isolate for 10 days. You should self-isolate regardless of your age, test result, and whether you're fully vaccinated. Fully vaccinated meansyou’ve received 2 doses ofan approved vaccineand have had your second dose more than 14 days ago. Some health and social care workers may be exempt.

(Don't think under 5s need to take a PCR but they need to isolate anyway)

Ah that's interesting, Ahthehillswerebright. I thought parentclub was part of the official Scottish government info. It's a minefield!

Parentclub may take its info from the official website but it's not the actual site

dementedpixie · 03/01/2022 08:13

This is the bit about under 5s and non-household contacts

Non-household close contacts under 5 years old are encouraged but not required to take a PCR test to shorten their self-isolation period

Thanks everyone, very helpful - I was really struggling to work it out. Fortunately we don't have covid atm, just trying to work out what would happen if one of us tests positive.(Rather hoping Scotland comes into line with the rest of the UK soon for rules regarding household contacts, as a 10 day isolation in a small flat with no garden doesn't bear thinking about!)

No, even on that link under-5s aren’t exempt if someone in the household has tested positive, just if you’re awaiting test results for another person. (Although not sure how that would work in practice - if the rest of us are isolating am I going to send my toddler down to Sainsburys to get the milk?)

I do hope they drop the whole household 10 days household isolation and replace it with daily testing or something.

dementedpixie · 03/01/2022 08:35

I agree @GoldenOmber. We are currently all under house arrest after dh tested positive. Noone else showing symptoms yet and my LFT yesterday was negative (all took PCR tests on Thursday and all came back negative except dh)

Brighteyedtriangle · 03/01/2022 08:43

This is odd. I put my 5 year old in as a contact when i tested positive obviously my number and i received a message

You're a contact of someone with COVID-19. You do not have to self-isolate.
You should take rapid lateral flow tests for 7 days or until 4th of January if that's earlier. You may become infectious even if you're fully vaccinated or do not have symptoms.
Children under 5 do not need daily rapid tests. For more advice

Did they ask where you lived?
Wootothewho · 03/01/2022 14:50

I don’t believe there is the same requirement for daily LFT but there is the requirement to isolate for 10 days
