If you are morbidly obese (hate that word, sorry) how was it having covid? Were you vaccinated or not? How long until you recovered?

TIA

I’m approaching 40 in both age and BMI and literally just had covid. I had one day (12-18 hours) of flu like symptoms and felt a bit rough. The next day I had a slightly sore throat, the next day felt absolutely fine apart from a bit of diarrhoea. Then it was done. I’ve had worst colds or hangovers to be fair. I’ve only had 1 dose of vaccine.

Hello....I'm 38 and over quite a bit over 40 BMI. My symptoms were a headache and tiredness for about 24 hours, a cough and fever for about 6 hours. Despite my BMI, I am quite a healthy person. Plenty of exercise, good diet and no pre-existing medical conditions and have had both doses of vaccine.

FeelingdownXmas · 03/01/2022 02:14

My Bmi is well over 40. I had a headache, exhaustion and no taste or smell. Apart from feeling a bit shitty I was absolutely fine.

StrangeAddiction · 03/01/2022 02:58

My bmi is waaaaay over 40! I had covid in July and I must admit I was worried about how poorly I would be (I even packed a hospital bag just in case!) but I started with a scratchy throat and then felt slightly rough for a couple of days - had it not been confirmed I'd have still gone out and about as usual- and lost my taste and smell and that was pretty much it!

MsInsomniac · 03/01/2022 03:02

Thank you for asking this, I’ve been so worried as I’m well over 40 BMI and haven’t had it yet.

PinkShirtMan · 03/01/2022 06:20

Thanks for all the answers so far. It's encouraging to hear it hasn't been all that bad for you ladies Smile

My bmi isn't quite 40. It's 37ish, I'm late 20's.

I had covid in December and it was like a head hold, in fact have had worse colds. The worst symptoms were sinus pain which I'm prone for anyway. No chest or breathing issues whatsoever.

I was double jabbed with Astra Zeneca, doses in Feb & May (had it slightly earlier then my age group due to being a carer). I hadn't had booster yet - I had it booked but had to candle due to getting covid. I was worried about the long gap between second dose and getting covid, but I was fine.

I’m 31 and my BMI is just under 40. Covid was pretty mild for me, I felt a bit rough for a couple of days with a fever that was never particularly high, and then an annoying cough for a week or two and lost sense of smell for a week. I’ve been affected much more by other viruses. I was double jabbed when I got it, was 5 months post AZ at the time.

ShrillSiren · 03/01/2022 09:29

I had it in December. I'm double vaccinated but hadn't had the booster yet. BMI over 40.
I was mostly fine. My temperature was all over the place for a week, a bit tired but not too bad. Lost taste and smell for 2 weeks.
My worst symptom was going deaf in one ear and terrible tinnitus . I've just finished a course of steroids for it and my hearing is about 90% back but the tinnitus is lingering so may not completely go. Hopefully the deafness doesn't return.
On the whole, it wasn't any worse than a cold for me, if I hadn't known COVID was a thing I wouldn't have even known I was infected with something. The vaccines work.

PuzzledObserver · 03/01/2022 12:16

I had it a year ago, unvaccinated, BMI just over 40, 57 yo and with type 2 diabetes.

I had the cough and was very fatigued for 2 weeks, then steadily recovered over the next 2. I had a bit of a temperature for a few hours one evening, but really no other symptoms.

Never felt desperately ill, just had no energy.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 03/01/2022 12:23

My FIL is over 70 morbidly obese with high BP so I was really scared for him when he got it but he is double vaxxed and boosted and I guess that must really work as he was in fact much less ill than DH and I had been when we had it pre vaccine
That is what the stats say as well as anecdote that vaccines really do reduce severe illness so I think you can legitimately feel reassured by that.

ToastieSnowy · 03/01/2022 12:24

I did have a BMI over 40 and got Covid before the jabs were available. It was horrid. I didn’t know whether I was going to be ok until day12, hospital deliberated whether to bring me in (I didn’t want to go). I had a month off work recovering. 3 months before last of my symptoms left, 9 months before my immune system recovered (I have regular tests)

Now I’m no longer morbidly obese and am triple jabbed. I’m hopeful that if I caught it again it wouldn’t be as bad BUT I’ve zero wish to get it again.

AnxiousHeffalump · 03/01/2022 12:24

I had it before vaccines were available. I was off work for three weeks, and then a bit dodgy for a couple of months, but fine to work.
It was a horrible illness, but I didn’t need any medical intervention or anything like that.

ToastieSnowy · 03/01/2022 12:26

I say a month off work, it was longer.

TheCreamCaker · 03/01/2022 14:28

My BMI is about 41. I had Covid in July (Delta) and was on a ventilator for 2 weeks, when I also got Pneumonia and had a stroke too. I'd had one vaccine at the time. I'm about 95 % recovered.

pintsizeprincess · 03/01/2022 20:34

My bmi is 41 and i'm currently fighting covid. On day 6 and struggling with a chest infection. It felt like a bad head cold the first few days and a dry cough which has now got worse. I'm feeling shivery top to toe again now and thumping headache but could be with all the coughing. I feel I need antibiotics to shift this but trying to get hold of a GP etc is no easy task. I tried 111 yesterday and was told the wait was over 60 minutes. I tried my own GP, the wait for over 90 minutes just to get through to a receptionist who will then book me a phone appointment with a GP for a week away. They are only dealing with emergencies due to concentrating on booster jabs.

So I have eventually submitted an online form to the GP surgery asking for antibiotics , The only way to do this was to tick no to having covid as if you tick yes then it stops you from going further on the form and asks you to call 111 ( who you can't get through to ) All I want is some antibiotics. Sorry for the rant. Just feeling sorry for myself, ill and frustrated. ( DIsclaimer - I did add to the notes on the form that i have covid).

I can now see why so many people turn up to a&e as a last resort as it is just so difficult accessing any help.

Me, Im 45, my BMI is currently over 40 and I also have Hypertension. I am working on getting it down, it was higher! I had Covid over Christmas. I had a few aches, slight sore throat and a snotty, stuffy nose for a couple of days followed by a few nights of insomnia. I've had worse colds.

Ifartglitterybaubles · 04/01/2022 00:00

Forgot to say, triple jabbed, first 2 were Astra Zeneca followed by a Pfizer booster.

Madlymumming · 04/01/2022 00:04

I am well over 40. I had Covid this time last year.

I am CEV with existing chronic condition plus BMI and was uniabbed at the time.

I had a heavy cold! I really expected my test to be negative and only tested because I have a CEV daughter.

youdontnome · 04/01/2022 00:13

Not over but near on. Had it last year before vaccinations were available. Was very ill and hospitalized, but I have chronic asthma and a history of chest infections. I'm 45.
