Medical treatment for baby - parents positive

Hello, I wondered if anyone knows what the procedure is if your child needs medical treatment but both parents are currently covid positive? Currently myself, my partner and our 5 month old baby all have covid. (Haven’t tested the baby but assume it’s covid since we both have it and he has the relevant symptoms).

He seems fine at the moment but if he were to need medical treatment, would they allow me to go with him still? Might seem like a leap and I’m sure he’ll be fine but he was very poorly as a newborn and so it’s always in the back of my mind.

Thanks all.

Would doubt you’d be allowed to attend unless he needed emergency healthcare and there was no one else to take him, eg a family member or friend.

As he has Covid they’d have to have special protocols on plane such as full PPE, separate secure room etc anyway? so maybe they would let you in too?

*in place

Yes they would let you go with him. Jesus, they don't separate tiny babies from their mums. They would be in full ppe.

My daughter had covid over the summer and she needed to see the GP as they thought she may have a serious complication, they kept us in the car until they were ready for us and then into a special room which they keep for covid patients and the GP was in full on PPE.

We’ve had babies/children where parents and baby are positive just nursed in isolation obs you can’t leave the room until discharge but you can stay with your baby unless you’re very unwell.

Jingleballsjellyballs · 02/01/2022 21:01

Yes you’d be able to stay with him. You’d be put into a separate room and not able to come and go etc. Worth remembering that on the very small offchance you do need medical help, Pack everything you might need for a few days

Yes they would. My daughter and I had covid in March 2021 and she developed ITP (she gets this after an infection) and we were both told to go to A&E where they were expecting us. The treatment we received was excellent as always and they never treat us differently even though we were both covid positive. All the staff wore surgical blue medical masks that we can all purchase form the store, nothing more.

You would be able to go with him. We had to call 111 for my 9 year old when we all had it, and they advised us to take him in. They were put in a side room and partner was given a mask and visor. 9 year old was fine btw, we were advised to get him checked out as his heart rate was very high on oximeter. He was back to normal somersaulting off the sofa the next day! Our 5 month old had barely any symptoms, was just a bit rattier than usual. Hope you’re all ok, I’m sure baby will be fine.

We still allow a parent to accompany even if positive on the ward I work on. Isolated in a room of course. Masks on when staff present. Stay in the room.

We would be screwed if parents weren’t allowed if positive considering how many people currently are and how many staff are off sick.

Thank you all so much for the reassurance, I really appreciate it. Really hoping it won’t get to that but knowing we won’t be separated is one thing off my mind.

This happened to us. Both DD2 and I were positive, she needed hospital treatment Sad Staff were fab, we were kept in a separate room. It became apparent that some nurses didn't know we were positive, after that I made sure to tell every new person, but they were fine about it, just wore PPE.

I'd assume that you could be able to follow the baby, since covid cases are supposed to be treated in separate areas. Also, we're talking about a 5mo so it'd be cruel to not to allow parents to be with them. Sending you prayers for fast recovery to all of you xxx
