Your experiences of omricon?

On another thread I’ve read a few posters say “omricon is mild” I don’t think they’ve actually had it themselves and are just going by what they’ve heard on social media etc.
I too was under the impression that it was a milder strain. I know a fair few family members/friends who had the delta or Kent variants. All had very minimal symptoms. Most were just tired. No fevers, coughs, aches pains etc. My DH also had covid in June 2020 and had zero symptoms.
5 days ago my sister in law and all her family have come down with what we assume is omricon (dominant variant in the area and also incubation period is considerably shorter than other strains which is the case for omricon apparently)
However, my sis in law is completely floored with it. She has a fever, body aches, sore throat, cough, sore chest, splitting headache, fatigue, sickness. Most of her family members (including young kids) have the identical symptoms. How is this “mild”? Compared to the other variants it sounds horrendous. When people say it’s mild, do they mean in terms of death/hospitalisation rates?
What is the experience of others? How did you feel?

Sorry, should have said: Sis in law doesn’t have the booster, but has had her first 2 Pfizer doses. Not sure whether her family have had boosters, but all are double jabbed.

Ali the evidence suggests that on a population level, Omicron is milder. That doesn't mean for every individual that will be the case. Just like with any illness.

Double jabbed and boosted.

Day 2

No idea what variant and probably never will (can’t even get hold of a PCR so will just isolate appropriately)

Feeling fine.

DD day 2 - also fine

DH day 8 - feverish at first, fine now, never floored!

Oh, and this 👆🏻

Mild means not being in hospital. Lots of people felt like you descibe your SIL with previous variants.
Double jabbed has v little effect on Omicron which is why booster is needed.

It really depends on the individual as DSis was really rough on Day 2
But on Day 6 she was in the garden painting the shed!

However her DH & DD1 were in bed with it for a week
Whilst DD2 didn't catch it & she was the only one not vaccinated.

I think as long as you dont end up in hospital its classes as mild

I don't think "mild" necessarily means "not grim". I'm boosted and have what is very likely to be Omicron given I am in the South East, boosted and have been very careful to avoid crowded places, keep close contact to a minimum etc because I have additional vulnerability due to a lung issue. And I still got it.

My main symptom is crushing fatigue. A few other irritating things, but the fatigue is such that I really don't want to do anything and am more than happy to isolate.

While the symptoms are debilitating I could not say they are anything that makes me even slightly fearful. It's certainly not "just a cold" for me, and if this is what I am getting in spite of being boosted I don't much like to think what it could have been like had I not been.

HelloMissus · 02/01/2022 17:42

My 80 yr old mum had it at Xmas.
She was absolutely fine. Has had many worse colds.
No lingering symptoms at all.
Vaccines work.

Jobchangeadvice · 02/01/2022 17:43

Unvaccinated age 24. I was suppossed to be vaccinated at the start of December but I have either been ill or in isolation due to close contact since then.

Day 1= mild sore throat
Day 2= bad sore throat, phlegmy cough, chills, fever, headache, fatigue
Day 3= stuffy nose, phlegmy cough. Much better than day 2

Thankfully it is nowhere near as bad as the bacterial tonsilitis I had in November. I genuinely thought I was going to die then.
