How long does covid stay in air?

A house guest has just tested positive and has left. We have all windows open in room where they slept/camped out. How long before safe to go in? They were staying in my daughter’s bedroom - not sure if she should sleep with us tonight instead.

I would let her stay with you tonight just to be cautious

This seems to say it won’t be hanging about in the actual air now but if your guest has coughed any respiratory droplets onto surfaces they could be there. For my peace of mind I would keep DD with me then go in and scrub everything in the room tomorrow but I have someone CEV so I’m probably not as relaxed about it all as the average person.

While coronavirus is not likely to survive for long periods of time on outdoor surfaces in sunlight, it can live for more than 24 hours in indoor environments

Coronavirus is carried in the air by tiny respiratory droplets that carry the virus. Larger droplets can land on other people or on surfaces they touch. Smaller droplets, called aerosols, can stay in the air indoors for at least 5 minutes, and often much longer if there is no fresh air

It falls to the floor pretty quickly, hence the 2m rules.

The EPA (US environment protection agency) has a page on indoor air and coronavirus
www.epa.gov/coronavirus/indoor-air-and-coronavirus-covid-19
From the link
"The particles can also linger in the air after a person has left the room – they can remain airborne for hours in some cases. Someone can also be exposed via splashes and sprays of respiratory fluids directly onto their mucous membranes. Spread may also sometimes occur through contact with contaminated surfaces, though this route is now considered less likely."

Interested in this too. Woudl other things like a fan help Disperse Droplets in rooms with only a small window to ventilate? How much fresh air is needed to clear the aerosols?

I'd keep her with you tonight, air the whole house tomorrow for all air to be refreshed and have a good clean and then this to finish
