To think we will all be close contacts constantly?

Vaccinated DH, vaccinated myself and unvaccinated Dc (7) tested negative before spending box day with family. Everyone was negative.
The next day 1 of those adults tested positive so we've been doing lft's since as we were close contacts .
All 3 of us remain negative so far, no symptoms.

Have now also been informed that a colleague has tested positive today, I worked with said colleague on weds and Thursday this week, quite close proximity.

So....now do I start the 7 days of lft's over again ad I've been another close contact. Where will it end. Surely we'll all be constant close contacts at this rate?

Hope that makes sense.

Lft's aren't mandatory, it's just advised.

Just do what you think best.

Totally get your point!

And how on earth the government think we can get hold of enough lateral flows tests is a mystery to me. We are 6, so last week needed 35 tests during the week when one had it.

With rates in my hometown sky high I expect that we will be close contacts all the time when kids are back at school. So I will keep testing as advised. I was very successful in catching delta early before DD had symptoms. We then all caught it but because of early and regular testing none of the DCs close contacts and friends caught it. Hoping I can be equally successful with Omicron when we get it.

@Cookerhood
Yes how on earth are they going to expect people to test?

@whittingtonmum

Yes dd goes back to school Tuesday. Dreading it, we had to do 2 pcrs in dec because of extreme close contact in class. Needed to be safe for Christmas.

I'm not going to do LFTs as a close contact unless I'm going out in those 7 days. I'll do it on the days I have to go out but if I'm at home. I did it recently but just ended up with a sore nose and lot of wasted plastic!

Ffs just stop.
Unless you have symptoms or are visiting a particularly vulnerable person just stop.

This is how it is for teachers (and other jobs). You’re a close contact every week so need constant testing. You get used to it.

VikingOnTheFridge · 01/01/2022 21:53

What will happen, if it isn't already, is people not naming contacts if that contact doesn't have access to LFTs and would lose money by isolating.

rrhuth · 01/01/2022 21:58

Pretty much everything the government has suggested in the last two weeks makes no sense in the real world. They are just panicking it seems.

Yes I think the 'contact' status will be almost permanent unless you are WFH and limit socialising.

The effects of this phase of the pandemic are going to be very unevenly distributed, and so very unfair in impact.

But the rules are now that if you are a close contact you have to either isolate or test daily for 7 days if you want to go out. It's not MN making it up.

"But the rules are now that if you are a close contact you have to either isolate or test daily for 7 days if you want to go out. It's not MN making it up."

If you are in England and fully vaccinated you do not have to isolate but are 'strongly advised' to take daily lateral flow tests for 7 days. So as far as vaccinated people in England are concerned, 'you have to' is just MN making it up. Link

friedeggandsauce · 01/01/2022 22:20

We were close contact (DH) but didn't LFT everyday as we isolated with him (it's the holidays and we would have been seeing vulnerable family members so just stayed home). We did a PCR on day 5 as that's the advice from my education authority so we carried that on, did LFT on days 6/7.

If we'd all been in school we would have done the 7 days of tests

Many workplaces will follow that guidance and ask for staff to test in order to limit spread in work. If my work ask me to do something, I do 'have to'.

Ah - my mistake. I admit that I just took the email from school, which was phrased as these were the new rules you had to do, on trust. I didn't follow it up any further than that. Apologies
