Should I be isolating?

I don’t really understand the logic (and disclaimer - I am usually a rule follower).

DS1 started feeling ill on Christmas Day. Had temperature and cough on 27th. I dutifully tried to book him a test but couldn’t get one until yesterday (31st).

All of us are consistently negative on LFT, including DS1.

When at the test site they persuaded me that DS2 and I might as well take a test while we were there, because if DS1 came back positive we would have to come back for one anyway.

I was about to nip out to the shop, but DH says I can’t and showed me latest guidance.

It seems we all need to stay home until the PCRs come back. Not just DS1, but all of us.

I don’t understand the logic at all. If DS1 had got an earlier PCR then even if he had tested positive, he would now have been out of isolation with a negative LFT.

I'm pretty sure if you are double jabbed and not showing any symptoms you can go out. Even if you are waiting for pcr results. Just be careful - masks, sanitise and social distance. If you are not double jabbed, you need to isolate.

When Dp and Ds got covid and whilst I was still negative I mainly stayed home, but did go to the shop, went to the petrol station and out for walks! Then I got it anyway.

Have just realised it’s specific to Scotland. You must isolate if “someone you live with has coronavirus symptoms but has not yet been tested or received their test result”.

Should I be isolating?
