Shoulder/arm pain after vaccine

First of all I am not anti vaxx!

I had my first vaccines in April and June and, since then, I've had a permanently stiff shoulder. I had the booster a couple of weeks ago and the pain is now also in my arm and neck - if feels as though the muscles are permanently tight. Has anyone else had anything like this? It's not the same as the pain in the injection site, that went off.

I'm fed up with it now and worried about having any future boosters in case it gets worse

Have you twice going to a good massage therapist?

shouldistop · 31/12/2021 22:28

Twice = tried Grin

I had a swollen painful arm for weeks after each jab. Did one shot on each arm and for the second it spread to my neck as well.

I think it’s a very common side effect.

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 31/12/2021 22:42

I've had a really sore right arm with lack of movement for about 2months. I am super flexible apart from that arm (now).

I had all my vaccinations, including booster, in my left arm.

My sore arm/shoulder has nothing to do with any vaccination. The end.

Hairyfriend · 31/12/2021 22:47

I didn't have this, just tender at the site for a few days.

I wonder if you might have a torta colis (wry neck) from sleeping on the opposite side due to the sore vaccine site? Or a frozen shoulder? I'd see an osteopath. A work colleague had a frozen should and could barely lift her arm and struggled to get dressed. It was fully resolved after a few treatments.

It’s probably a stiffness you always have had but not noticed. So you just attribute it to having an injection. You really should have a booster.

Correlation is not causation.

Try some stretching exercises or take more exercise - the stiffness you describe is highly unlikely to be caused by a tiny tiny injection.

Derrymum123 · 31/12/2021 23:04

Had all my vaccinations in right arm. Since 1st one I cannot extend left arm straight from elbow. Must be a coincidence as it is not the arm I had vaccinations in. Been going on for months now. Tried heat, cold, deep heat, tiger balm etc. No help at all.

LilyPond2 · 31/12/2021 23:35

Sounds like it might be a frozen shoulder. If you can afford it, I would suggest paying privately to see a physio who specialises in treating shoulder problems.

I haven’t always had a stiff/painful shoulder and please read my post, I’ve had my booster and my arm is now worse. I said I don’t know if I want future boosters but for other reasons as well as this.

My sore arm/shoulder has nothing to do with any vaccination. The end.

There is a thing known as shoulder injury related to vaccine administration (SIRVA). It’s rare but it does happen hence me asking if anyone else has had anything similar.

Thanks to everyone who has offered advice, I’ll give the osteopath a call in the new year.

Suffering with this now . Had booster and 10 days later this happened . All vaccines in left arm . Was told inflammation of the muscle . Currently on Naproxen , but due to start work next week and have a horrible feeling will not be able to start back as I am in a manual job ie cleaning part employed other part self employed. Can’t clean if I can only lift my arm to a certain level .

Cookerhood · 01/01/2022 16:36

You said that the injection site was sore initially. Where was that - how far down the arm? If they inject too high up into the shoulder instead of the correct muscle you can get shoulder pain.

HesterShaw1 · 01/01/2022 16:41

Anyone who thought "antivax" after reading your OP needs their head examining!

I had the same pain after my booster. He did it really high up and I assumed he'd clipped a nerve or something because both arms, neck and shoulders all hurt. It lasted about ten days but has gone now
