Hospitals near me are not allowing visitors from NYD

I'm in the North East. Both local trusts have said visitors won't be allowed - i understand the reasons behind this and fully support it if it helps contain the virus and exposes staff to less infection

I feel for anyone in hospital atm though. Are all areas doing this?

It's the same here in the Midlands announced today...

JanglyBeads · 31/12/2021 18:40

Not all, but various trusts all round the country are making similar announcements.

KiloWhat · 31/12/2021 18:41

Oh no that's so tough xx

MajesticElephant · 31/12/2021 18:41

Same in my area. Which sucks as I need a procedure soon!

It’s the right thing - I work on a ward and visitors hate wearing their PPE and often wear their masks under their chin at bedside. They don’t want to show proof of negative lateral flow tests and staff are under enough pressure without having to argue with visitors. I’m waiting for our trust to announce a no visitor rule……….

Tealightsandd · 31/12/2021 18:45

Sorry OP. It's shit that it's necessary. I wish better mitigations had been put in place months ago instead.

I know the same is being done with several London hospitals.

Onlyhereforchaletschool · 31/12/2021 18:46

My mum was in hospital twice in November. No visitors allowed either time unless end of life or dementia. Don’t think they ever went back to allowing visitors. Was tough, you could go to the ward door and hand stuff in but couldn’t see her.

mummyh2016 · 31/12/2021 18:48

Ours hasn't allowed visitors since June Confused I'm West Midlands.

Jellykat · 31/12/2021 18:49

Our local hospital has been thus for a week now.. I know because a very dear friend passed away last night, she had no one there..and i wasnt able to say Goodbye.

Abraxan · 31/12/2021 18:51

Announced yesterday, starting today - no visitors, except for special circumstances such as end of life and one birth partner for women giving birth. In Sheffield and across all of the hospitals here.

WoodenReindeer · 31/12/2021 18:54

1 visitor for an hour a day here but they didnt mind if you stayed longer.

Fine with me accompanying to outpatients too!

SpringRainbow · 31/12/2021 18:54

I had no idea some hospitals were allowing visitors.

JohnSmithDrive · 31/12/2021 18:55

DH was in for three months early this year with no visitors at all, including when he got the news that his cancer was terminal. I'm surprised to hear medical staff think it's right, it seems completely inhumane to me.

Three of his last six months in hospital with no hand to hold, but it wasn't end of life so that's apparently OK. By the time we got him home to die he wasn't the man we knew.

I'd much rather wear a mask and gloves, and provide a negative LFT, than leave a loved one alone all day in hospital.

It was awful not being allowed to visit FIL last year - luckily they managed to move him to a hospice eventually so he could have immediate family visits.

I only spent a very short time in hospital in 2020 when visitors weren't allowed and it felt really quite lonely.

If it's a lengthy stay it must be horrible for many patients without physical contact.

I'd rather the rule was limited time and numbers, with ppe and negative LFT produced, and those not willing to comply not permitted or asked to leave.

I can see why if staffing is very low and patient numbers are very high why it might be needed as a temporary measure, but nothing about it is good/positive.

That's hideous, I'm so sorry. I agree that individual circumstances should be taken on board.

They wouldn't let a friend into A&E with her husband recently (making a traumatic experience more traumatic) is this the same nationwide?

countrygirl99 · 31/12/2021 18:59

My 94yo dad has been in and out of hospital in the last 18 months. Most of the time it's been no visitors. Very hard on my mum who has dementia and is scared her husband of 63 years won't come out.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 31/12/2021 19:00

@Jellykat I am so sorry about your friend. Sorry for your loss and that she was on her own. That's so sad Flowers

Yep, I was in A+E in October and they were making + 1s wait outside.

That's certainly been the case for a while here. I wasn't allowed in A&E with my 17 year old not long ago on the basis that he was over 16.
HermioneWeasley · 31/12/2021 19:02

It’s completely inhumane. Everyone has lost all perspective and the only thing that matters is Covid transmission control, not patient care, patient advocacy, mental health or anything.
