to confess my relief

so were on day 7 of covid as a family. I was the only one a tiny bit sick (adults all triple jabbed but not had the 14days clearance)
still testing positive so not able to leave the house yet but im the most relaxed about start of 2022 now.
the worst happened, we got covid and now were over it. Normally I'd be stressing about the children going back to school especially since im pretty sure half our town has it but not now. im not worried. they're unlikely to catch it again so soon.
we are unlikely to be the person to spread it to my parents or family or in laws.
I actually feel like a weight has been lifted from me.
I took covid very seriously definitely didnt want to catch it, wore masks, social distanced, didnt go out for dinner anywhere but our local and enforced the guidelines at work, still got it. Now I have this brief moment of freedom from fear and I love it.
of course will only last until the next variant but I'll enjoy it until then

Yes, I understand. I felt a great sense of relief after having had covid. We were fortunate as none of us were really unwell and we probably caught it early enough via ltf to avoid passing it on to anyone. Obviously, it doesn't mean that we can be complacent now but it definitely took the fear factor away for me.

Thank goodness for the vaccines, as it might have been a different story without them. I guess we'll never know.

My2favboys · 31/12/2021 12:46

I think knowing we had the vaccine kept me calm over the first couple of days. if this was last year I think I would of been a complete mess.

I totally agree. It's a sense of freedom. Feeling invincible. Feeling safe. Not having to think "what about covid" at every outing or meet up with relatives. You realise the never ending worry at the back of your mind, that you didn't even really know was there, is suddenly gone. It's like the washing machine finishing the cycle, like taking off a bra at the end of the day. It's beautiful! The grass is a little bit greener and the sun is a little bit brighter. Enjoy OP!!

CovidForChristmas · 31/12/2021 12:57

Same here. Was just saying that now we have 3 months off.
I don’t have to freak out every time my nursery age child has a runny nose. Or when it’s going around my school aged child’s class (again).
Only difference is we have all been so ill. Also still testing positive so looks like we’ll have to do the full 10 days.

MrPoppysParka · 31/12/2021 13:00

I did think like that for about 4 days. Then omicron hit and it seems you can get them both so now I’m back to worrying!

My2favboys · 31/12/2021 13:06

definitely like the girls getting to hang at the end of the dayGrin.
sorry you were sick @CovidForChristmas.
pretty sure it was omicron we had, typical symptoms sore throat/headache/cold. no cough and still have my sense of taste/smell so have been munching all the lovely Christmas food.

Honestly, I am relieved too. It was only a matter of time, and it seems us catching it now (with 3 vaccines, time off work and DH being able to access antivirals) is the best time, if any. I'm being cautiously optimistic, but going into 2022 having had our first exposure is a relief (if we don't end up randomly developing symptoms in the next few days, fingers crossed!).

SilverGlitterBaubles · 31/12/2021 14:41

I felt exactly the same OP, relief of thinking ok the dreaded thing we've been worried about for almost 2 years has happened and thanks to the vaccines it's not actually that bad for most people.

Passthecake30 · 31/12/2021 14:52

I feel the same. Looking forward to going out to eat and off to the cinema just as soon as I’m “allowed”

RuinedReindeer · 31/12/2021 15:33

We’ve had Covid over Christmas -hadn’t thought about it like this op-just been a bit upset about missing family/being I’ll over holidays.

This is a really good way to bring it round to a positive 👍

ErrolTheDragon · 31/12/2021 15:39

Humph... My DD brought a Just a Cold home with her for Xmas. It's really quite disappointing having the sort of symptoms you describe but no red line on the LFTs. Hmm

wonderstuff123 · 31/12/2021 16:09

Yes, totally get your relief. I'm on day 5,son day 2 and hubby day 1. I feel like I've been waiting for this to drop on our heads for months. It's a relief to know we've had it now and, seemingly thanks to the vaccines,we should all be ok

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 31/12/2021 16:16

I felt the same for about 3 weeks (we had delta I assume), then omicron came along and it's all about repeat infection. Fingers crossed this isn't the case.

We were pretty ill for the whole 10 days (and then some more days really), definitely not WFH or getting dressed very often, but it was still 'mild'. Despite both being on the CV list we were OK. My inlaws had it at the same time and were OK too, despite being 70. It was a nice relief for a bit.

ItsAlwaysThere · 31/12/2021 16:25

Absolutely. When I felt awful and was in bed with it, I was relieved that I just felt like I had flu. We all contacted it, it's put my mind at ease somewhat.

Elizabeth110100 · 31/12/2021 16:28

I get your relief too and also feel the same. It was horrid that our Christmas was ruined but the fact we've all had it makes me feel so much relief about going back to school and work.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 31/12/2021 16:49

Yes I know what you mean. We all had covid back in Sept, I felt awful for about two weeks but no after effects. After that I still carried on wearing masks using hand sanitiser etc but felt happy enough to go to see two bands and see friends in a pub. It's like you've experienced your worst fear and survived it ok and so are more philosophical about it all.

I know you can still get omicron after having delta but I've had the booster so there's nothing more I can do and hopefully after all my exposure if I do get it it'll be pretty mild. And luckily since me and DH both work from home it won't interfere too much with life.
