That the more you’ve reacted to the vaccine the worse you would’ve had covid?

I’ve had the 3 jabs and had some pretty crap side effects, I remember reading somewhere (cannot for the life of me think where!) that this means covid would’ve been worse for me if I had caught it?

Or is that just complete codswallop and I’m just an unlucky vaxxer?

I hope this makes sense, I’ve had a glass of wine Wine Grin

I don't think anyone could possibly know. The vaccine and covid are not the same thing.

RoseAndRose · 30/12/2021 18:36

There's no way to tell

CouldThisReallyBe · 30/12/2021 18:37

I doubt that there's a connection but if you want an anecdotal case study, I had zero reaction to all 3 jabs (2 x AZ and 1 Moderna) and I had mild Covid (Delta).

PlanetNormal · 30/12/2021 18:37

That’s an impossible question to answer because you can’t measure how bad covid would have been had a sample of vaccinated individuals caught it when they were unvaccinated.

RagzReturnedUnwrapped · 30/12/2021 18:37

I can't see why it would. So I'm going to say no.
Most elderly people got barely any side effects from their vaccines (I give them and always ask about reaction to previous doses, so tend to see a pattern), but would likely have been quite poorly with covid if they'd caught it. Most people I know who got really strong reactions/side effects are fit and healthy and would likely have had 'common cold' level covid.

OliveTree75 · 30/12/2021 18:39

Who knows. I had super mild covid pre vaccine. I was wiped out after all 3 jabs

Babyg1995 · 30/12/2021 18:41

I had covid really bad was also really unwell with the vaccine too .

Fridaynight2021 · 30/12/2021 18:43

I had covid pretty badly and have reacted badly to all vaccines too. Partner didn’t react at all to vaccines and had a mildly runny nose with covid. All anecdotal though

Icanseeclearlynow12 · 30/12/2021 18:44

I was extremely unwell with Covid last December but just a sore arm with both vaccinations&booster

UnsolicitedDickPic · 30/12/2021 18:45

Well I was perfectly fine after the first two but rough as fuck after the booster, so I don't know where that would leave me! Grin

snapsieplopp · 30/12/2021 18:47

Not sure, all the older people I know had zero side effects whereas the younger/fitter ones had side effects.

Kara198 · 30/12/2021 18:48

I've had 2 x Pfeizer and I'm on day 3 of covid. Bed bound and feeling very poorly!

slaybell · 30/12/2021 18:53

I had no reaction to either Pfizer jab (not boosted yet) and I was pretty poorly with covid (I think Delta? Jan 2021). Not hospital poorly but I was laid up for a couple of days.

the80sweregreat · 30/12/2021 18:54

Very Poorly with covid for over a week ( in mid November , so probs delta ) and the moderna booster vaccine knocked me for six too
Dh has had both and he was fine ( just felt a bit under the weather for a day)
Some people are very poorly even with Omnicron.
It's a weird virus in all it's forms.

Jacaranda75 · 30/12/2021 18:56

I would say it’s the other way around. Reaction to the vaccine shows you have a robust immune system. Which would presumably protect you should you actually get Covid.

Theunamedcat · 30/12/2021 18:57

I had covid back in March 2020 felt bad but I was still moving cooking watching the children etc (who also had it) two astra zenica vaccines wiped me out booster (Pfizer) felt tired and sore arm currently have covid again (the day after I had my booster) my brain is fried

Agreed. I’ve read that reacting to the vaccines is a good sign your immune system is reacting as it should.

But that reacting to vaccines should mean experiencing covid more mildly is an assumption and I’ve not read that specific link anywhere.

rosiemanchester · 30/12/2021 19:08

I was hospitalised with covid but had zero side affects of the vaccine, I don't think there's any correlation honestly

WonderfulYou · 30/12/2021 19:13

In theory - yes.

In the vaccine there is a weak dose of covid. The side effects you get are from your body’s immune system fighting it and creating anti-bodies.

So getting actual covid which would mean getting a stronger dose of the virus - so your body would need to fight it harder.

But there is no way to really tell as if you’ve already had covid you would have got some antibodies before you get the vaccine, so your immune response would need to be as strong and vice versa.

Sorry not in my case. I'm CEV with zero immune system and wasn't great after first two and had to seek medical advise after booster I was so ill!!
JS87 · 30/12/2021 19:17

Depends what your reactions were. I had some symptoms post vaccine which are seen in people with long covid. So it makes me wonder if I might have got long covid. However I don’t think the usual fever/aches post vaccine are indicative on anything except your innate immune response to the vaccine d.

HansChristianAnderfuck · 30/12/2021 19:20

I had covid at the beginning, very mild, went about life normally just noticed a bit tired and achy (no testing available, found out later from a blood test). The vaccines x 3 all made me feel much more unwell especially the first- severe aching joints and muscles, even my fingers hurt, mild fever, shivery, slightly nauseated. My antibodies are off the scale, I have them tested monthly at work and they’ve been very high from the beginning.

LouLou198 · 30/12/2021 19:21

I felt worse following the vaccines than I did when I had Covid (before I got my first vaccine).

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 30/12/2021 19:26

DD had Covid in October 2020 and felt much worse after having her vaccinations (first and second) than when she had Covid. She had no ill effects from her booster but she did have Covid for a second time.
