query about care homes

if you have a relative in a care home, and you visit- do they ask for proof you have been vaxxed or have a negative LFT?

I ask because an extended family member is full anti vax conspiracy theory nut and is visiting his elderly mother in a care home twice weekly.

I suspect he might have been vaxxed but is saving face by lying about it, but am also wondering if he is just lying about being vaxxed and no-one asks for proof.

Another family member is about to drop a word into the care home about it, incidentally.

The care home we visit request proof of a negative LFT for adults and children. Proof of vaccination is not requested for family members but it is a requirement for other external visitors ie contractors.

I have to do LFTs each time I visit. They have asked if I am fully vaccinated but not had to show any proof (yet).

Thanks. I was hoping it would be at least something like that.

We are supposed to do lateral flows every time however it really depends on who answers the door as to whether they ask for it or not.
Vaccination status seems irrelevant, we’ve never been asked about it although all fully jabbed and boosted

It seems a bit mean trying to deny him visiting his elderly mother though by telling the care home. What if he decides not to get the vaccine and so then can’t visit her? Surely if he’s doing negative LFTs each time he’s no more of a risk than someone who is vaccinated. Testing is the most important thing in my opinion, vaxxed or not.

Oh i am staying out of it. It's shaping up to be a right royal barney in DH's family. But I was wondering if there were mitigation measures in place such as LFTs and hoping they were.

Visiting as a visitor I have had to do a lateral flow there and then, my grandmas home won’t accept one you do yourself beforehand. Visiting as a professional I have had to show my vaccine pass and a negative lateral flow but I believe the law for vaccination only applies to staff snd visiting professionals not family and friends visiting.

My dad's care home insist I take an LFT upon arrival, which they then disappear with and I'm left in my car until I get a negative result. They've asked if I'm vaccinated, and for the vaccination dates, but they've said they can't insist on visitors being vaxxed. All visitors are given full ppe to wear for the duration of the visit. So far, only staff members and vaccinators have brought covid into the home.

My DM's care home asks for a LFT pre-visit. This can be done at home in advance or on arrival. I have tried to show them my vaccine certificate but they aren't keeping records! However, they know my views about vaccines and testing so it's possible they have a different unwritten risk assessment for different folks.

All makes sense. And I am pleased to hear it so thank you all for sharing. Thanks

We ask for a registered LFT test on arrival (text, app or email to show result) or do an LFT at the door if it's not available.
We don't ask for vaccination status because visitors aren't required to be vaccinated, only staff and contractors.
