So confused

Hi,

Wonder if anyone can help clear some confusion up.

I tested positive this morning on a LAteral flow…did two others they were negative. Tried to get a PCR but there is literally none anywhere!

My uncle has just tested positive on his test…he does have symptoms! Do we all have to isolate incase it’s omicron? Obviously I can’t get a PCR so how are we meant to know what variant it is? My mum also works in a care home and she has been in close contact with my uncle as we are all under the same roof for Xmas!

Just wondering what the rules are regarding possible omicron positive and my tests!

(Sorry if this doesn’t make any sense) xx

You all need pcr. Try 119 if the website has not slots, or keep trying.

Thank you! I’ve tried 119 and have been told to call back later Confused

We had to try for a few hours yesterday to get PCR slots for today after dh tested positive on LFT

ColettesEarrings · 30/12/2021 12:09

Those with positive tests must isolate until they can get a pcr. Omicron doesn't make a difference to isolation requirements anymore so don't worry about that. If your mum is negative on lfts then in theory she can go to work unless they have a separate, stricter, policy.

dementedpixie · 30/12/2021 12:10

Although if you're in Scotland you do all need to isolate and take PCR tests

McFarts · 30/12/2021 12:11

If youre in England those of you who have tested positive on LFT need to isolate and get a PCR. The other close contacts who are currently negative need to continue to test daily with LFTs for the next 7 days, if fully vaccinated or under 18, if not then they need to self isolate for 10 days. If your PCRs are positive you wont find out what variant you have, Omicron is now the dominant strain in the UK.

Cookerhood · 30/12/2021 12:11

The rules are now no different for omicron & they don't tell you which you have. Close contacts now don't have to isolate if they are double vaccinated, but you do because of your positive lateral flow. Close contacts are advised to do lateral flows for 7 days after the last contact.
Look up the rules on the government website.

No PCR's available, it's been widely reported today.
