If you've had covid twice how long between?

I tested positive the beginning of November. I have had two vaccines plus booster.

A relative was over on Boxing Day with a cold - they did LFT before coming which was negative and they had had the cold for a few days. I've woken up today with a cough, tight chest and runny nose 😕 I've done a LFT which is negative - should I pcr? I'm so bloody confused any other time I would have thought it's just a cold.

I had covid in November and a cold about a week later that lasted for ages . I didn't bother testing, it was probably because I was run down and just caught a usual cold . I always get a cold around Xmas anyway!

I had the 'super' cold that was doing the rounds just before I caught covid. I usually get a cold this time of year anyway I'm just paranoid that it's covid my family member had not a cold.

I don't think you can have another PCR within 90 days.
It sounds as though you've just picked up a cold

That's what I thought but I seem to remember someone telling me you can PCR if you have symptoms.

Yes, you have a new symptom from the big three symptoms list (cough) so you need a PCR even though you're less than 90 days post infection. The no PCR within 90 days rule applies to routine testing, travel testing and close contact testing only. It's most likely just a cold, but there's only one way to find out.

Thankyou. I think I'll try to book one I think it's more likely just a cold. I ache and my chest feels tight, I have a weird taste in my mouth too. My taste has barely come back since having covid as it is.

My DS14 has just tested positive on LFT and PCR - 97 days after his previous infection. Has a small cough.

JanglyBeads · 30/12/2021 13:47

With omicron, reinfection is much more common.

StrangeAddiction · 30/12/2021 14:41

What kind of LFT are you using?

I read that the basal only swabs aren't as effective for omicron when you have sore throat/cough and should use a throat swab lft.

reddevilunited · 31/12/2021 09:09

I've a PCR test booked for this morning. Chest still tight and achy, runny nose and scratchy throat. I don't feel too Ill just like a cold. If it is covid I'm so fed up. Literally only tested positive beginning of November

We all had Alpha in May or June of 2020 then Delta plus in Oct 2021. Everyone in the family had the second one milder except me. My alpha covid was virtually negligible so maybe I didn’t build up good antibodies compared to the rest of my family who were much more unwell. We were all unvaccinated then but DH and I are double vaxxed now. I’m expecting to get omicron just because of how transmissible it is.

Porcupineintherough · 31/12/2021 09:17

9 months between Wuhan COVID and alpha

cliffdiver · 31/12/2021 09:26

18 months.

June 2020 and December 2021.

Passthecake30 · 31/12/2021 13:59

Dh had asymptomatic Covid at the beginning of October while my ds was symptomatic and has spent the last week positive with what looks like omnicrom (and kindly shared it with me🙄)

Wandda · 31/12/2021 19:16

12 months. First time relatively mildly. The second time it floored me and I’m still struggling with extreme tiredness 3 months later

In your situation, it is best to do lateral flow tests, I think. The problem with the PCR test, is if you get a positive result, you won't know if it is a new infection, or not.

I had Covid in November, and was quite ill with it, and then the 'super cold' after that. Now it seems as though everyone at work has either covid or 'a bad cold' and I'm feeling pretty run down. Negative on lateral flows so far.......

I've been using the old style ones where you swab your throat. All negative though!

This is what I'm thinking. If it is positive I don't know if it's picking up the original covid I had or if it's a new infection. LFTs have been negative though so far.

Delta in July, Omicron now 😏

Moolia · 31/12/2021 23:56

My DS had covid twice, 7 weeks apart.

Being pedantic... the Alpha variant didn't emerge until autumn of 2020 and drove the wave over that winter. If you got it in May 2020 you almost certainly had the original virus.

Negative PCR!!

Good news op!

reddevilunited · 02/01/2022 23:07

Still feeling full of cold and now have back pain - which I've just been reading is a sign of Omicron
