London hospital admissions and further restrictions

So I’ve seen boris is telling us to enjoy our new year but I’ve also just seen that London hospital admissions have breached the 400 marker (which was a benchmark for further restrictions ?!) I’m not for a lockdown but is boris really just going to sit and do nothing . I am frankly shocked he hasn’t at least given a press briefing or something !

London data here

data.london.gov.uk/dataset/coronavirus--covid-19--cases

It doesn't really matter - from the POV of keeping hospitals safe and functioning if patients are admitted with it admitted because of . Because they still need to be kept apart to minimise/eliminate hospital acquired cases. Indeed'admitted with' is arguabjybwirse, as that's spread over multiple parts of the hospital and is harder to manage safely

I really don’t want a lockdown. I just think given the record cases and admissions to hospitals are going up (even if people aren’t staying for long ) that maybe Boris et al should have spoken publicly about the possible impact wyc

I can sense a lockdown coming. Its disgusting and irresponsible to encourage NYE and family gatherings as things are. He is too scared of upsetting people. No doubt it will be our children and teachera as well as nhs staff that have to pay the price for this vile nonsense.

I'm trippled jabbed and positive. Whilst I am by no means at deaths door it is most certainly not a walk in the park either. My heart goes out to hospital staff.

@Gensola

But the vast majority of those seriously unwell and in ICU are unvaccinated. Why should the whole country lockdown, children miss school, people lose their jobs, mental health go down the toilet? we need to learn to live with the virus and if people choose to be unvaccinated then they take the consequences.
How do you 'live with' something that kills and disables?

Anyway, it won't just be the unvaccinated harmed will it. Anyone who needs medical care (cancer, mental health, car accident, giving birth, etc) won't get it if the hospitals are full and staff off sick or dead (over 600 HCP are dead from Covid).

But the let the bodies pile up crew needn't worry. If it's only London, nothing will be done. Protective measures won't be taken unless and until anywhere else in the country is at risk. London has been the country's cash cow for decades - at the expense of Londoners. Governments haven't cared about Londoners for a very long time pre pandemic.

That said, a pp is correct. Some of London's specialist hospitals care for patients across the UK. However, I still don't see anything being done unless the rest of the country is at risk.

I don't know if you are aware op but there's more places in the U.K. than London. Figures are far lower elsewhere because we have far higher vaccination rates plus less urban living issues let's say (eg overcrowding)

Tealightsandd · 29/12/2021 23:58

What would help a lot would be if we've ordered a decent supply of the monoclonal antibody that appears to work well against Omicron - sotrovimab. Pfizer's antiviral too. There's also the Merck pill. Less effective but still helpful.

Actually many other areas are just a week behind.

There are other issues in other parts of the country, such as having older average ages.

@JadeandGreen

Boris said today that 90% of people in hospital are vaccinated.
Haven’t been boosted which is not the same as vaccinated
Tealightsandd · 30/12/2021 00:01

Currently America is one of the only countries with a good supply of the Pfizer antiviral, and sotrovimab is in worldwide short supply. But once there's wider availability things should be more hopeful all round.
