When to end isolation if positive PCR but lateral flows have never showed a positive?

Going round in circles in our house atm not knowing what to do. We’ve all had a cough/cold that we’ve not even able to shake, probably for the last two weeks. DH had one day of feeling slightly more off colour last week so went for a PCR on Christmas Eve, came back late on Christmas Day as positive. He’s felt fine ever since. I woke up on Boxing Day feeling awful, high temperature, shivers and unable to get out of bed til today. DH took me and the dc for PCRs that day, all are negative. DH and I have taken a lateral flows today, both negative. I presume then that I’ve just had a horrible bug, whereas DH seems to have had covid so mildly he’d not have known without the PCR, a relief after how ill he was last Christmas when we also had covid. How is he meant to know when to end isolation if he’s never tested positive on a lateral flow and we’ve had constant colds? It’s not a dodgy batch as we’ve used three different packs to make sure!

10 days after his positive PCR.

Are you in England? If so I'd say it quite clear that he can end after 7 days as his 2 lateral flow tests will be negative as that's the current rule (unless I'm missing something obvious)

Are you in England? Your dh tested positive by PCR on xmas eve so your household isolates for 10 days. He can test again on days 6 and 7 and, if both are negative, he can end it then.
In Scotland (where I am) yours and dc’s results are irrelevant as, even though they were negative) you all isolate as a household.
I believe in England you can end isolation after your negative PCR’s but I’m sure someone else will confirm.
Hope you all stay well.

Maybe you just mistyped but a negative PCR isn't a thing in England, did you mean LFT?

It’s pretty easy to find the actual rules and check you’re not posting misinformation.

In England, if your lfts stay positive, you end isolation after day 10. There is no need to wait for a negative lft. Ending isolation with a negative pcr is not a thing.

whyohwhyohwhyohwhywhy · 29/12/2021 10:03

I don't think the household needs to be isolating at all if they are negative @onitlikeacarbonnet

It is day 7 as the lft is negative.

PurpleDaisies · 29/12/2021 10:07

So op your dh had a positive pcr. The fact he didn’t have positive lfts doesn’t matter.

If he tests negative on both day 6 and 7 (twenty four hours apart) or any two consecutive days after that, he can end isolation.

You may be able to end your self-isolation period before the end of the 10 full days. You can take an LFD test from 6 days after the day your symptoms started (or the day your test was taken if you did not have symptoms), and another LFD test on the following day. The second LFD test should be taken at least 24 hours later. If both these test results are negative, and you do not have a high temperature, you may end your self-isolation after the second negative test result.

@whyohwhyohwhyohwhywhy
It’s my understanding that in Scotland the guidance is still 10 days. But I’ll admit I haven’t checked to see if that’s changed since Christmas.
If it has, my apologies.
