Do I have to put DD through a PCR?

DD is 6, been in contact with her dad and his sister over Christmas, came back yesterday and they’ve both this morning had positive PCRs.

DDs been negative so far on LFTs, but I’m wondering if I have to put her through a PCR? It’s going to have to be a postal test if I do as I share a car with a family member, so can’t risk possible positive DD being in contact with the car.

I know I have to do daily LFTs on her wish me luck she always struggles but do I need to do a PCR on her at any point?

Anyone know?

For what I know both ExH and Ex-SIL are fine, bit of a cough and cold. ExH did test positive at the end of last year as well (not that I feel in anyway sorry for him after what he put me through). I am double vaccinated and slightly worried as I’ve never knowingly had covid, and nor has DD

You won’t need to swab her throat, only nostrils, due to her age. That being said, my DS still flails his head round just doing that!

@Catquestion she's several times pushed the swap away when in her nose, just the throat would be fine still a struggle but we'd manage but with nostrils or just nostrils is the problem, she often has a nosebleed after it as well Sad

I've decided to just to do the daily LFTs and try and stay away from places. I'll so a PCR if any of the LFTs are positive. I've cancelled Holiday Club for the rest of the week won't get my money back from them and not sure if she doesn't attend whether I'll get it back from UC.

Not sure what to do about work as they'll say I can go in, even if she tests positive they'd say I can still work so it might end up being unpaid leave...

Love the fact that her dad isn't worrying about any of this.

Will just have to bribe her with the Christmas biscuits.

Did you fib about doing the lfts?

Because they are exactly the same as PCRs!

oftenbaffled · 28/12/2021 16:08

Yes you will get your 85% from UC

Smartiepants79 · 28/12/2021 16:11

None of the schools round here (including the ones I work at) would fine you in the circumstances you describe. If you really think your head is going to fine you for 2 days absence due to a family member having covid then Just tell school that you’re waiting on test results for someone in the house and you’ll send her in when you know.

Ajl46 · 28/12/2021 16:15

The latest LFTs we did just required a nasal swab, not the throat one too. Not sure if the current PCR guidance is the same but if so hopefully it won't be too bad.

Watapalava · 28/12/2021 16:23

Your dd doesnt actually have to isolate or have any tests - its advice only regardless of being a contact

Watapalava · 28/12/2021 16:27

Why are you making such a big deal? Neither of you need to isolate or test. You don't need to cancel holiday club either! She can still go.

massiveblob · 28/12/2021 16:31

If she's LFT -ve she can go to holiday club

Abraxan · 28/12/2021 16:34

@ArcticRollHouse

I'm not worried about a fine if she tests positive, I'm on about what *@LegoPandemic* suggested of not daily testing her but keeping her in isolation for 10 days anyway, I would get a fine then.
We mark all covid related absences, including if a child is a close contact but negative themselves, as authorised. We would rather they were home than potentially coming into school spreading covid asymptotically.

Our LEA also don't fine anyway until day 5 of absence, so missing a couple of days wouldn't cause one.

The teacher really is unlikely to be bothered by your child not being in school for a day or two.

I don't see the physical difference between doing an LFT and PCR. If you can do one, you can do the other. They're basically the same. I don't even bother with the tonsil bit anymore, but thoroughly swab the nostrils.

There is no difference

So either the Op has been living under a rock and doesn’t know this

Or

She’s not been doing the multiple lfts on her daughter she says she has been doing

musicalfrog · 28/12/2021 17:19

Poor kid. Just do one pcr then you'll know either way, and won't have to keep on testing daily. It's really that simple!

WoMandalorian · 28/12/2021 17:27

Could you not isolate for 4 or 5 days and then start daily testing? That way you've avoided roughly half of the tests! I had to test my 2 year old earlier this year and it was awful as he flailed his head about wildly, even with 2 people holding him. Doesn't seem safe to test small children.

PotteringAlong · 28/12/2021 17:59

Just do the LFT’s when she’s asleep. Why won’t you send her to out of school club if she’s negative on the LFT’s? She doesn’t need to isolate.
I think you’re making this harder than it needs to be.
