Hi all

On the 22 Dec I ended up in A&E all was well however we were supposed to travel to my parents on the 23 which we decided not to do with the worry I had been in a high risk place!

My mum has asked for us to travel up tomorrow which will be a full 7 days. I have been testing daily which have all been negative and have no symptoms I think!!!

Question is would I have started to show symptoms by now if I had picked something up? I can't make head nor tail of the rules anymore so asking you all for advise.

For context mum was on the shielding list and we are all overweight so fall into vulnerable. We are all triple jabbed apart from my little one and husband who are with me anyway!!!

It is unlikely after such a time, but it is not completely unknown, there are a few cases of full hotel quarantining individuals testing positive after 14 days in quarantine and no known contact during that time. However the vast majority will be shorter than that, particularly with omicron.

Personally 7 days is a little close (as it can take a few days for LFD's to test positive too) if visiting a highly vulnerable person who is otherwise minimising risk without any pressing need - however the risk would be pretty low

I’ve been pinged for contact on the 22nd. Got my first positive LFT this morning. Upset tummy and ache started last night.

ZealAndArdour · 28/12/2021 13:07

*aches.

ZealAndArdour · 28/12/2021 13:08

It’s only a very very faint positive too, a squinter.

newbietoanxiety · 28/12/2021 13:08

It's so hard to know what to do for the best

@ZealAndArdour sorry to hear that

It depends on what strain. Delta up to 10 days but they are seeing a shorter infectious presentation with omricon of 2-5 days.

Tbh I work in A&E I would say there are other places now that are far higher risk. We test so many patients now in A&E. Any positive patients even those with incidental Covid, as in they have come in with something else but happen to have asymptomatic Covid are placed in a side room. I considered my Xmas days out to pantos, winter wonderland etc out far higher risk than my job.

That's good to hear.

I personally wasn't tested. It did declare that I had a PCR result back that morning as I had been asked to get a test by my doctor so maybe that's why I wasn't tested. I was only sat in the waiting room for a short period of time and then moved to AECU where I was in a room with others but socially distanced and all had masks etc

Yes the other thing is in hospital the overwhelming majority of people do wear masks unlike in other places. I think a lot of people are more worried about catching it there than anywhere else. Now a year ago, 100% it was high risk. But now many more infection measures have been put into place as well as rapid testing. So personally I would go.

I also live with my elderly mum who is very high risk. I am less concerned bringing it home than say my daughter would from school or like I said my days out. I would not worry tbh. Your 7 days post your day in A&E.

No worries, I am not concerned about serious illness at this point, it’s my second go at the covid rodeo (first infection mid Jan this year), I wasn’t particularly poorly last time and I was 11 stone heavier then. I’ve had three vaccines in the intervening time too.

I just wanted to illustrate that it’s definitely still possible to test positive and develop symptoms this far out from the 22nd.

Totally understand no lines at all on my tests (using a pregnancy checker app as well haha) no symptoms that I can tell so fingers crossed
