Walking the dog

After my covid test this morning I will have to self isolate until my appointment. I have to have the test to be able to have my hospital procedure in a few days. All the info says if you are SI with symptoms you can't leave the house. Obviously. But I have no symptoms and it is a precautionary test. I can stay away from everyone as I do this walk a lot and 9/10 we see no one else. No one else available to walk her and it would be a minimum of four days with no walk. I need this appt so will do what is necessary but I can't work out what it is!

If there's genuinely no one else who can do it (and I'd awkwardly ask neighbours I was on nodding terms with/people I didn't know too well) then I think the only realistic option is to go as early in the morning/late at night as you can, go to secluded areas (drive somewhere quiet if possible) and mask up.

In your situation I’d say it is fine to walk the dog. I’d maybe go at times when I was least likely to see people (in the rain, Dawn/dusk).

Saucery · 28/12/2021 08:00

I would take a mask or buff, put it on in the event of seeing anyone close enough to speak to and explain you have an appt that means you can’t be in contact with anyone.
Isolating on a dog walk seeing no one is no different to isolating in your garden alone, so I’d be fine with that.

GoodnightGrandma · 28/12/2021 08:00

If I were you I’d go out when there’s as few people around as possible.

Pumpkin5piced · 28/12/2021 08:05

I have covid and I’ve still been walking the dog. I haven’t been near anyone.

lotsofdogshere · 28/12/2021 08:11

Yes in your situation, I’d take a mask, go early/late when less people about and keep a distance. I’d probably keep my dog on a lead just in case

User754390 · 28/12/2021 08:13

Just go out when and where it is quiet and take a mask with you as a precaution in case you see anyone

Siameasy · 28/12/2021 08:16

I would walk the dog too

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 28/12/2021 08:19

Very interesting to see the difference in responses compared to a year or so ago!

I did exactly that btw. Took her out after dark, most days it was pissing rain and we rarely saw a soul, and always at a distance. I've since seen a few other masked dog walkers who I assume are doing similar.

rookiemere · 28/12/2021 08:23

There's been a few threads about this, but we have a dog and in your situation I would walk him early and late. If we go before it's light in the morning I don't meet anyone.

devildeepbluesea · 28/12/2021 08:26

I walked the dog. I went very early to secluded areas and then last thing at night. Didn't once get within 30 yards of anyone else. He's a rescue who flat out refuses to pee in the garden, there wasn't really another option.

MyGreenTutu · 28/12/2021 08:30

OP doesn't have covid. She is isolating prior to hospital treatment. Therefore it's completely fine to go anywhere she wants provided she stays away from other people. She is not going to catch covid from an empty field or a wood, or even from walking round the block if she picks a time when she's not likely to run into anyone who wants to chat. She's as much at "risk" using her own garden as she would be from these activities.
Isolating ahead of treatment is not the same as isolating because you actually have the virus.

SunshineCake1 · 28/12/2021 08:54

Thank you so everyone.

I will wear a mask and stay well away. I couldn't get out early enough this morning after a bad nights sleep due to a sick but not covid dh so will take her later. Off for my covid test now.

You say about responses are different from a year ago, well yes. We know more, I know I don't have it whereas when I did last year people weren't routinely tested and currently we aren't under lock down.

Thanks again everyone. I will have a very happy dog.
