My dd just spent Xmas at her dads. They shared a bed for 2 nights. She came back yesterday and today he messaged to say he's tested positive for Covid.

She's been coughing all day and just came into my room and has a temp of 39.5 (it's nearly 1am). I gave her calpol I think that's ok. I went on the nhs website to check but it just says to isolate!! No advice on treatment.

She's 4 I know children are less likely to get ill but she's got underlying health conditions (still not got a diagnosis but they are very much there). These include ataxia and reduced immunity.

We're booked for a PCR tomorrow and we've isolated today.

Any tips on how you got your little ones through it appreciated.

I gave dd calpol and did all the traditional care stuff like hot lemon and honey and lots of fluid and soup.
She was also having vitamin d and k2 fairly regularly as well.
Blankets and tv helped.

Ok so like any other cold/ flu? Can you give ibuprofen now?

Mine have it. Had a bad day last two days by appear brighter today.

Calpol and blankets and t v with lemon and honey and basically just waited on them hand and foot. Lord and slots of lovely cuddles too.

I’ve woken up with a head ache sore throat this morning so PCR for me 😭

Same as any other cold/bug. Lots of rest, lots of fluids, Calpol/nurofen when needed.
My two have it now - both had a day of high temp and being miserable but are now back to normal playing etc just snotty and coughing everywhere!

So you're not worrying about making them sleep on their side or anything like that?

The same as any other viral infection. Paracetamol and ibuprofen for pain relief and comfort. Keep well hydrated. Food as tolerated, if they didn't eat as much as usual I didn't worry too much as long as they were drinking fluids. I also gave vitamin D, multivitamin and Sambucol like I would do normally in the winter months. Honey is good for the sore throat.

Best advice I got was just to treat the individual symptoms- Calpol for pain relief and to bring down temperature, cough medicine for sore throat etc. Just as you would without the scary name of covid.
Also, do you know you can use paracetamol Calpol and ibuprofen Calpol at the same time? Just follow correct dosage.

Mine have it and as yet havent needed any medicine but I will be offering calpol and ibuprofen.

3yo and 6mo have both had it, as well as both us parents. Treated with paracetamol and ibuprofen alternated. Kept on top of 3yo for a few days as his temperature rises quickly and is hard to keep under control if it spikes again. (Like this with every bug he gets) 6mo mainly just needed paracetamol/ibuprofen over night, felt hot in day so dressed cool but was generally ok.

Lots of TV, films and naps. 3yo had a nap every day for probably 5 - 6 days, since then he's not had one and is back to normal. 6mo slept alot one day, overnight would only sleep on me and needed to be kept upright so slept with head on belly.

Do what you need to survive. Every one is different but if she normally suffers with temperatures keep dosed up.

Why would they need to sleep on their side?

If its for the cough I would recommend propping up with lots of pillows as that stops you coughing so much over night

My 4 year old had it. He was very ill for one day and then woke up right as rain.

I gave him calpol a few times during the day as he had a very high temperature, just put some tv on for him and let him lie on the sofa with a blanket. Offered lots of juice / water but couldn’t get him to drink much. He didn’t want anything to eat as he felt sick. I just let him nap and was there to cuddle him when he needed it. I’ve obviously got it now which isn’t ideal at 22 weeks pregnant but so far has been very mild for me and somehow my 3 year old and husband haven’t caught it.

I was very worried for my son as I’ve never seen him so ill, he’s normally a very healthy little thing and it was awful for him but he woke up the next day bouncing around full of energy so it was a very short lived illness for him.
