It's been really nice not having it shoved down our throats on TV and social media, hasn't it?

I just thought the same thing!

CiderWithLizzie · 26/12/2021 22:39

Yes. I’m usually obsessed with checking the dashboard every day at 4pm and then twitter. It’s been really nice not having any updates. Maybe I need to step away from the news…?!

FakingMemories · 26/12/2021 22:41

Very nice to hear and read other news.

For those missing their daily dose of fear, doom and gloom, there are always plenty of threads on MN to keep them satisfied.

Lately it seems people are competing to see who had the most miserable Christmas, isolating away from their young children, watching them open presents from a distance, in a mask, eating separately, not sharing a bed with their husband despite both being “triple jabbed”. You know, the usual COVID martyrs.

musicalfrog · 26/12/2021 22:41

Maybe the news needs to step away from us @CiderWithLizzie!!

I really think the public's mental heath would benefit from a limit on covid news.

I’d rather know. They must have the figures.

I’d rather know. They must have the figures.
Why though?

Why though?

I’d like to know if the cases are going up or not. Especially the hospital numbers. I doubt I’m the only one.

musicalfrog · 26/12/2021 22:48

I don't see what difference it makes to your daily life though.

I don't think that level of detail is necessary for the public to know. Or at least make it harder to find so that most people are allowed to switch off from it.

I would like to know too. It is not as if Covid has gone away.

PurpleDaisies · 26/12/2021 22:50

Why does it need to make a difference to my daily life.
I would still like to have seen those figures.

PurpleCushions · 26/12/2021 22:51

Those wanting to know - the last few days wouldn't be a true reflection on figures anyway I wouldn't think. I haven't been able to get a test until tomorrow so assume the data will be off for a good few days yet.

I realise that. I would still have wanted to see the figures.

Sounds a bit obsessive to me. After nearly two years I'm so over it. Maybe it's because I've had it myself recently.

I'd like to see the hospitalisation figures because I work in a hospital.

Haven't seen any threads about weird isolation behaviour but ill have another look.

PurpleDaisies · 26/12/2021 22:53

I didn’t realise this was one of those threads where only one viewpoint was acceptable.

TulipsGarden · 26/12/2021 22:55

I'd rather see the figures too. Hospitalisations were quite close to the government's cut-off for restrictions, so I'd like to know if they're up or down.

It's really not. I think because my own interest is waning I'm just refreshed by the lack of news. It's interesting that others feel differently and I'm pondering why.

I’m interested in the figures each week. The higher they are the more likely hospitals and other important services will be stretched or overwhelmed, due to staff being ill, isolating or needing time off due to Ill children. Those would affect me in a general way if I become ill of something else, need public transport or things like supply chains.

High figures will also likely lead to wfh continue for me. That has really affected me and id much rather be in (not an option during government recommending wfh).
