Would you still go on this trip away?

Travelling about 150 miles away to a big attraction that is mainly outside and staying in a hotel nearby for 2 nights. Travelling by bus, train, bus, train, bus due to rail disruption. CEV adult and 3 dc. Journey is 3 hours due to all the changes and the main train is usually very busy for an hour of the journey.
I'm wondering if restrictions will come in while away that might make things difficult.
Would you take the risk of going?

No, especially with CEV person on the public transport when infection rates are so high.

Obakarama · 26/12/2021 19:19

I would find out if there were good anti-infection measures on train and bus, eg lower capacity, open windows, mask mandate etc. If I felt reassured I would definitely go.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 26/12/2021 19:39

We are going to Butlins tomorrow on public transport. Absolutely going.

covidinsecure · 26/12/2021 19:54

@Waxonwaxoff0 is anyone in your party CEV (and a lone parent to boot?) and how many trains/buses is your journey?

Not CEV, I am a single parent. 3 trains and a tube.

covidinsecure · 26/12/2021 20:32

@Waxonwaxoff0 then you miss the point of the risk of the trip.

No I wouldn’t tbh given the CEV adult. Trains can be awful at the best of times this time of year and the transport would be a risk. Could you look at getting an airport car? They can be less than you’d think for a long journey.

If the event itself is genuinely outside I’d feel ok with taking they risk but if you’re likely to be eating in, spending time in queues inside then your have to weight up your own risk tolerance.

LilyPond2 · 26/12/2021 21:50

If I were CEV I would not currently be making any journeys by public transport unless the journey was essential and I had no other option.

Covidworries · 26/12/2021 22:10

Not a chance we would be going on public transport right now

Theremoresefulday · 26/12/2021 22:11

Not with someone CEV no.

TheCloudsHavePassed · 26/12/2021 22:22

No I would not with cev. I feel like shit tonight. 3xjab no health concerns and I've been out of the house once in the past week to the co-op whilst trying to minimise risk to see parents on Tuesday. Chills, cold like, aches....I'm livid to have to consider a PCR. I couldn't risk seeing elderly parents though without it and your position is worse. Sorry op

greenlynx · 26/12/2021 22:30

No, I wouldn’t because it’s by public transport, at busy time and with a lot of changes. Also the trip involves DC so probably no masks, more touching and less sanitizing.
Is this trip a special present?
By the way who would look after DC if CEV adult falls ill? I assume it’s their parent.

covidinsecure · 26/12/2021 22:54

I've cancelled the trip. It's me that is CEV and a lone parent to one of my dc and I just don't want to risk it. The weather is due to be shit too. We are going to go somewhere local instead. I have had several courses of steroids throughout the pandemic as every virus has resulted in a chest infection. One nearly put me in hospital and I was ill for a good 3 weeks where I just managed the bare minimum in terms of parenting then it took another 3 weeks to get back to somewhere near normal. My eldest says I'm paranoid but that last infection was scary and I can't imagine what covid on top would be like. I can't imagine ever going anywhere again without risk assessing things.

FFP2 or 3 masks for you and the kids (can order online in Germany I think) are very good. Very little transmission from touching things. But wise to not book but in the future I’d be donning these very good masks and making sure they are well fitted, and minimise any indoors if possible - but live your life within that.

rrhuth · 27/12/2021 00:27

Cases are very high and personally I would also cancel.

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 27/12/2021 00:27

No

AnnaMarieQ · 27/12/2021 00:39

I wouldn’t but I’m CEV

Monty27 · 27/12/2021 00:44

No. Simply on the grounds it sounds like really hard work 😳
