What is the liquid used in LFT's? Can I use saline?

I had a box of LFT's, all the little pots disappeared.

This happened two more times before I figured out the cat was taking them. No idea where he's put them.

It means I have a lot of sticks and little test boats but no fluid.

Seems such a waste, could I either use a different kind of fluid (saline?!) or order just the extraction fluid?

@QueenOfHiraeth

I have loads of solution as NHS staff used to get a big box of 25 tests which had a dropper bottle of solution as some ways of testing used more than others and I only used a tiny bit! We should have an exchange system Grin
I had those as well, also NHS staff.

The bottles lasted a long time. If I didn't unscrew it and pour the whole lot out.

I'm an idiot.

I have Covid right now, and some of the lateral flow tests had evaporated liquid in them. I used a good one and that was positive then I used contact lens fluid on the other one and that comes out positive as well. You may get away with water, don't know

Just found this on the government website

Alternative transport medium

Laboratories can use alternatives to Viral Transport Medium (VTM) subject to local validation, including Universal Transport Medium (UTM) or liquid Amies medium without charcoal (Amies medium with charcoal is not suitable). If necessary the following can be used as alternatives (in order of hierarchy): Phosphate Buffered Saline (PBS) with a protein source such as albumin or bovine serum, PBS alone, saline, or no transport medium (such as a dry swab).
