Anyone else no longer testing WITHOUT symptoms?

I know I'll get the typical "so selfish how COULD you" type posts but is anyone else no longer testing when they have no symptoms?

I've had PCRs a few times with colds and things this year and have done LFTs too. I've ran out though now and I don't intend on getting more right now and will go for a PCR if I have symptoms.

If someone I was meeting asked, I'd do one. But other than that I feel like no longer testing when I feel fine.

Have never tested without symptoms aside from to travel, don’t intend to start now.

Blubells · 26/12/2021 10:45

Are we supposed to be testing without symptoms?

BooksAndGin · 26/12/2021 10:45

Never tested without symptoms. Infact I rarely test then unless I'm seriously unwell. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Don't see the point in testing for every single cold.

Scottishgirl85 · 26/12/2021 10:45

I have never tested without symptoms :-S

Blubells · 26/12/2021 10:46

Isn't that a waste of money? And all the plastic rubbish? Shock

LFTs. Seems a lot of people on here think you should whenever you leave the house in case you're asymptomatic.

No as work wouldn't allow it. Twice a week testing for us- symptoms or no symptoms. Also planning an extra one today as going to see my 95 year old gran

Parker231 · 26/12/2021 10:49

Haven’t had any symptoms but we all test regularly especially if meeting a group of people. Don’t won’t to risk passing it on asymptomatically. It only takes a few minutes of your time.

Really? Can you imagine how many tests that would involve if every UK citizen tested themselves esch time they leave their house?!

LouScot · 26/12/2021 10:51

I'm regularly testing without symptoms, yes, as that's what the Scottish Government advice is - test every time you're going to be in contact with people from another household - even if it's just the supermarket- so for many people this means daily testing just now.

Wowwellokthen · 26/12/2021 10:52

I test about 3 times per week. And additionally if I am spending time with my parents.

Polkadotties · 26/12/2021 10:54

Have never tested apart from once when my OH had Covid. I was negative

multivac · 26/12/2021 10:55

I test before meeting people outside my regular circle, regardless of symptoms, as does pretty much everyone I know. It's not about whether we're 'ill' or not; it's about contributing to the reduction of spread. But the Mumsnet universe has been divided into 'I'm alright so fuck everyone else' and 'I'm still ok to do what's needed to get us to the point where that stuff isn't needed' for a while now, so this thread isn't surprising.
A symptomless positive changed our plans for yesterday.... and stopped us potentially picking up the virus and bringing it back to our home community. I'm happy with that.

twelly · 26/12/2021 10:57

I don't think people should test unless they have symptoms. TBH I don't believe we should be staying at home unless our symptoms are such that demand it - however, I would isolate and follow the government regulations even though I disagree with them.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 26/12/2021 10:57

I stopped in August when I had Covid as the advice then was not to do LFTs for 90 days after. Never bothered starting again, if I get symptoms I'll do a PCR but I'm not using LFTs any more.

EmilyEmmabob · 26/12/2021 10:57

I test a few times a week, why wouldn't I? I'd rather know if I was potentially contagious and risking the lives of others so I could stay away.

Learning to live with this virus means making changes to the way we live to keep others safe. I've read so much (not on this thread) where people are banging the drum about 'learning to live with it' yet seem to think this means ignoring it rather than making changes to keep others safe from it. So many see testing as an infringement on their human rights.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 26/12/2021 10:58

I'm testing every day this week as I was in the office with someone who started to feel ill and tested positive the next day. My nose is sore and they make me sneeze! Once that's done I'll only test if I'm going to see elderly family rather than creating unnecessary plastic waste.

LeQuern · 26/12/2021 10:58

Yes, I test without symptoms. Usually twice a week and additional of going to visit elderly parents.

AnnaSW1 · 26/12/2021 10:59

I've never tested without symptoms

Grumpyosaurus · 26/12/2021 11:00

Yes, for work. Don't want to be asymptomatic and be responsible for closing a class down.

Why do you think this? How does this reduce the spread and keep the vulnerable safe?
Bollocks2Covid · 26/12/2021 11:00

I test several times a week. Seems the sensible thing to do given it’s absolutely rife at the moment and so many people around me seem to be dropping like flies. If I I wasn’t go anywhere or meeting people though I don’t think I’d bother unless I was unwell though.

Whistleforthechoir · 26/12/2021 11:00

Have never tested without symptoms except on the rare occasion I've been close to someone who's subsequently tested positive.

I dread to thing about all the unnecessary plastic in landfill after all this.

Isn’t this the Scotland motto “flow before you go” and they encourage people to do this?

Unless I’m meeting vulnerable people I’m not doing it.

guineapigs · 26/12/2021 11:02

I don't really need to test without symptoms as I am sahm. I do test if some of us in family has symptoms but so far I have avoided covid.
