DP positive - can I still have my booster tomorrow

DP had three positive lateral flow tests yesterday and going for pcr today. DC and I were all negative. Obviously we’ll test today and tomorrow but if I remain negative can I still go for my booster tomorrow afternoon. I can’t find any clear guidance

No I don’t think you are supposed to attend even if you don’t have to isolate. That’s the guidance in our area.

Wigeon · 26/12/2021 08:49

Fully vaccinated adult household contacts of positive cases don’t have to isolate. Fully vaccinated means you’ve had 2 doses of one of the UK approved vaccines:

“ if you are fully vaccinated or aged under 18 years and 6 months, and you live in the same household as someone with COVID-19, you are not legally required to self-isolate. However, you are strongly advised to take an LFD test every day for 7 days, and to self-isolate if any of these test results is positive”

See here.

I’m in England if that makes any difference

There’s clear guidance in the green book which is the guide to give vaccines should be administered.

It’s absolutely fine to have a booster as contact as long as you don’t have to isolate, you don’t have symptoms and you haven’t tested positive.

Papyrus · 26/12/2021 08:51

They ask you if you've been a close contact when signing you in, so probably won't let you have it.

PurpleDaisies · 26/12/2021 08:52

Sorry my first sentence was a mess! I hope it’s clear what I meant. You can have your booster.

Gizlotsmum · 26/12/2021 08:53

Oh that’s interesting, we asked track and trace and the vaccine line and no one could give me a definitive answer, our asthma nurse checked and the only guidance they could find was not if within 28 days of contact. You can see how confusing it can be!

PurpleDaisies · 26/12/2021 08:53

They shouldn’t. That’s not in the guidance. Some centres might have gone rogue but as I said, there is no rule that contacts can’t be vaccineated.

I wasn’t asked. There have been lots of threads like this where many, many others haven’t been asked.

She’s wrong. It’s not within 28 days of actually having had covid (as an adult)
sheeplikessleep · 26/12/2021 08:54

I rang 119 about this (when DS3 was 7 days in) and was told I could providing I was negative on LFT and no symptoms. I wasn’t asked when I turned up.

friedeggandsauce · 26/12/2021 08:54

I think although you are allowed most people don't want you!
I was meant to have a dentist appointment but phoned and explained dh was positive and they cancelled!

bettybyebye · 26/12/2021 08:55

Yes you can. I wasn’t asked either - it was the quickest vaccination experience ever! Far quicker than either of my first and a lot less questions asked. They were clearly on a mission to get as many done as quickly as possible.

Lifeispassingby · 26/12/2021 08:56

I wasn’t even asked if I had been a contact- they asked if I had had covid positive result in last 28days that was all x

pinkcattydude · 26/12/2021 08:57

This was the guidance in our area if it’s wrong I’ll be quite annoyed.

Wigeon · 26/12/2021 08:58

@PurpleDaisies - where does the Green Book have guidance on the vaccination of close contacts? I wasn’t aware that it did but it’s quite hard to keep up with all the various editions (latest edition 24 December!)

It’s: here if you can point out the relevant bit?

Todayisanewday75 · 26/12/2021 08:59

None of us have any symptoms, just tested because we were supposed to be seeing my parents.

My husband cancelled his when son tested positive on lateral flow abs thank goodness as even though our lateral flows were negative our pcrs were positive. I can imagine he would be feeling really poorly if he had Covid and booster at same time. He has rescheduled x

PurpleDaisies · 26/12/2021 09:00

@widgeon read the bit on precautions, p31. It doesn’t call them “close contacts” but that’s what individuals who may be asymptomatic or incubating covid are.

MrsSquirrel · 26/12/2021 09:00

I had my booster on Friday and was not asked anything like that. I only had to confirm my identity and that it was a booster.

I would go assuming you still have no symptoms and still test negative.

Lovemylittlebear · 26/12/2021 09:01

Sorry for context we all felt fine when pcr came back positive and since then I’ve come down like a sack of shit…whole house is ill apart from one chil (I have four). Husband and I double jabbed.

R0tational · 26/12/2021 09:02

I went. I felt cheated as I had booster side effect and then covid too Envy

rainbowandglitter · 26/12/2021 09:03

I was asked at my booster last week. It seems very inconsistent.

Wigeon · 26/12/2021 09:04

@PurpleDaisies - but that’s not about household contacts. It’s directly under a heading of “Individuals with a past history of COVID-19 infection” and it says:

“Vaccination of individuals who may be infected or asymptomatic or incubating COVID-19 infection is unlikely to have a detrimental effect on the illness. Vaccination should be deferred in those with confirmed infection to avoid confusing the differential diagnosis.”

So that a) suggests that vaccination of asymptomatic individuals /those incubating infection is possible and b) vaccination of those with a confirmed case should be deferred (and then goes on to state different deferral periods for different age groups).

Todayisanewday75 · 26/12/2021 09:05

I did wonder if it would be unwise to have booster when I could potentially have covid too
