Are some people just naturally immune?

My friend hasn’t had any vaccines (not a crazy anti vaxxer, just hesitant currently).
She works in a local comprehensive, her partner works in retail. So both key workers.
She has never had covid as far as we’re aware, yet she’s been in contact with it several times through her job. She also has a child at pre school and they’ve been exposed to it, yet she’s never tested positive.
She thinks they all had it in the first wave in 2020 as they were all quite unwell then, but obviously tests didn’t exist in the same way as now.

Well @Cantgetgoing I figure it’s a choice and it has to be made based on your clients, their needs, their risk, and your own level of risk and comfort. I offer a hybrid service so those who don’t feel ok coming f2f don’t have to. It’s not like I’m making anyone do that or bust. I’ve never judged other practitioners for doing what they feel is right with their own practice as its not my place to decide that for anybody else. However, the level of shit I’ve had for doing the same has been utterly awful. I’ve had actual abuse and threats to report me to my professional body (which is useless since those I’m a member of have never banned F2F). And I’m sick of it. I’ve never operated illegally and many clients have told me it’s been a lifeline for them. They are sensible adults (or they have sensible parents) who can make adult, informed choices about risk and benefit. That’s all I need. So you can get on and do your practice your way and I’ll do mine. Merry Christmas!

I'm the same as your friend OP, I work in a school and have been working throughout lockdown and when staff and kids were dropping like flies from covid, dd and dh have both had covid this Christmas but I'm still testing negative and no symptoms whatsoever.
DH said I'm like a cockroach who would live through a nuclear blast Grin

I think I am. My son and I never caught it, despite other family and friends getting it

Angrymum22 · 26/12/2021 13:56

Deux I was the same then I think I just had too many exposure to Delta.
Working in healthcare tends to give you a very robust T cell immunity so often you get very low grade short lived versions of colds and respiratory infections.
The initial antibody tests were probably not that sensitive ( only looking for recent infection so high titre level) mine was negative but was done 6 mnths after initial infection by which time antibody titre was too low to be detectable. Hopefully after full inoculation and Covid x 2 it will be pretty robust. The other factor was probably stress, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in August and my stress levels were off the scale when I picked up Covid. The breast cancer was probably compromising my immunity in addition to stress.

I have had 2 horrible colds since September. Staff at school also had them, they were flu like and went on for ever. We were all convinced it was covid. All tests negative. Moats if these staff have now gone on to catch covid so I am guessing the ‘fly’ last month actually was flu.
I would like to think I have a strong immune system and that is why no Rona for me but I seem to catch very cold going so that can’t be the case.
Off to covid soup London tomorrow. I shall be shopping in Oxford street and going to a big football match.
I suspect I won’t catch covid then either🧐

My ds is 13 and currently unvaccinated - the whole of the rest of our household has had it, we didn’t isolate from one another at all and he didn’t catch it. My mum caught it when she was here for a couple of hours before we knew we had it! Assume it was delta as it was October. He has also been exposed multiple times at school - the kids who sit around him all went down, but he also escaped that too!

Possibly he’s just been lucky, but I think he must have some natural immunity. I do wonder whether we have had it before - dh had something back in Feb 2020 that greatly resembled covid but he was the only one with any symptoms. None of us were unwell with the October dose (dh was the only one with symptoms and they were mild) but the rest of us tested pos, whereas ds was negative the whole way through! Dh and I are vaccinated too!

Fairly certain I had it February 2020. Classic symptoms and it was definitely around before it was “officially” around. My kids also were ill about then. Since then we’ve tested lots (my two gets temps at the drop of a hat). We’ve been exposed loads. I had unknowing contact with someone who had Covid for a week daily. We have never tested positive. Had all my jabs but starting to think I had antibodies prior to my first vax.

No. Is to do with viral load. Don't kid yourself it's to do with having a superior immune system.

Berlinkreuzberg · 26/12/2021 15:25

I was sickest I've been with it but normally very strong immune system. Never catch a cold. Healthy and very physically fit. I was exposed all through 2020 to it on ICU, got quite blase, exposed to patients with false negatives, never caught it. Stuck with dp in isolation with it and caught it. He reportedly had a very high viral load.

Justwingingit2005 · 26/12/2021 15:34

My oldest son didn't get it when it ripped through his school, football and when the rest of us had it at home. He was having twice weekly lfts then when at home here he had 3 pcrs and daily lfts as he was still going to school. He must be made of steel. Tbh he's rarely ill, always dodges bugs when they hit the rest of us.
