Post Covid Dizziness/Vertigo

Has anyone else had this? How long did it take to go away? I had covid in November, the dizziness/vertigo started a couple of weeks ago. Even if I am lying down in bed, and turn my head too quickly, it kicks off a spell of feeling like I am on a merry-go-round. The NHS is seeing this in "long covid". Oh joy. www.yourcovidrecovery.nhs.uk/managing-the-effects/effects-on-your-body/dizziness/

@PixelatedLunchbox - I didn’t have it after I had covid in September but I did have it about 5 days after my booster vaccine and I feel it was related to that. I have had benign positional vertigo in the past and it was exactly the same as that. It lasted about 10 days for me.

PixelatedLunchbox · 25/12/2021 06:46

@Inastatus Thank-you - mine started after my booster as well, come to think of it. I didn't know I wasn't supposed to have the booster until 28 days after a Covid infection and had it at about 21 days after, and felt quite ill for about a week, then the vertigo.

I had it after Covid in Sept. It settled after a few weeks.

I had covid at the end of March 2020 and intense dizziness for about a week in early July. I’d never had it before and it was very scary. I think it was vertigo (which again had never had before) and still don’t know if it was connected to the Covid I’d had a couple of months previous. A very unsettling mystery. Hope you feel better soon.

Piggyinblankets · 25/12/2021 20:54

Yup, I did. It's quite a well known lingering symptom. I had terrible nausea. When that went , I was left vertigo which went after about 6 or 7 weeks.

JollyHostess · 25/12/2021 21:07

This is weird to read...a couple of weeks ago I felt unwell, tired and dizzy for about three or four days. According to that link it is a common Covid symptom. Did I have Covid I wonder? I did a negative LFT.

Phos ac 30 is a homeopathic remedy that is useful for this... Worth a try even if you are doubtful. Helios will sell it only about £3.

Hi Op, just seeing if this settled down for you? I am currently on the sofa also suffering from vertigo ( and tight chest). I had covid in Nov too. Rubbish isn't it?

I still have it, hasn't gotten better or worse. Shock

@LambLamb I had the chest tightness as well, and abdominal pain also. Heart palpitations. Covid is a hateful nasty little virus. Angry

DS had covid in March 2020 and vertigo/dizziness started shortly after. Got worse by October, got an ENT referral which will finally happen next month, but as referral made when it wasn’t realised there was a covid link, I guess it will get written off as long covid.
DD had covid in October and is now complaining that she gets dizzy or things go black when she stands up.

BewareTheLibrarians · 02/01/2022 11:19

Covid can sometimes trigger POTS, so it might be worth having a look to see if the symptoms match. If they do, some of the treatments for POTS might help (the link below has some advice on reducing symptoms).

Either way the dizziness is horrible to live with Flowers I hope it clears up for you soon - it really is a nasty little virus isn’t it!

SpringheelJack · 02/01/2022 12:26

I think so. I think I had it in March 2020, but they weren't really testing then, so unconfirmed (but DH swabbed positive, as he was medical frontline and they needed to know for certain about his symptoms). I had very mild on and off dizziness for a good year or more. It's eased over the last year or do, but that's probably still not what you want to hear!

SciFiStirFry · 02/01/2022 12:28

Have you tried doing the Epley Manoeuvre (YouTube it) on yourself if you have bppv? Helps if you have another person to check the angles/time you but helps enormously.

CasparBloomberg · 02/01/2022 17:32

@BewareTheLibrarians thanks for the link, that sounds exactly like what is happening to DS and DD. Will discuss with GP

orangetriangle · 02/01/2022 20:49

. . I have now - thank-you!! I did the manoeuvre yesterday and I would say the dizziness disappeared immediately by about 95%. I am shocked (and thrilled!!!) THANK-YOU!!

I had this after both covid and more recently the booster. I had the BPPV (which was improved by the Epley) and a more chronic vertigo type dizziness. There are exercises I am meant to be doing to help but I haven’t been that diligent in doing them because they feel horrible!
