Anyone not seeing family just in case?

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has changed their Christmas plans to be safe. I have elderly relatives and can’t decide whether to visit them with my children or not. We would take LFTs but they’re not 100% reliable so bit nervous.

What are your plans?

No I’m seeing my family the same as I did last year, there is no such thing as “safe”. one of my best friends mums died unexpectedly and suddenly last feb in her late 50s with no health issues (nothing covid related), they were in tier 4 last year but broke the rules to see family for what no one knew at the time would be her mums last Christmas. Stop putting your life on hold and taking for granted that there will always be next year!

We're not stupid so we weren't planning a family gathering or anything but we won't be meeting ILs outdoors for present swapping, just dropping at their door and waving from the car.

Me, not seeing anyone only those who live in the house with me. X

Some people are so worried about covid that they are forgetting to actually live their lives. Last year my dad was 81 and he came to us for Christmas. We had a lovely day. He was clinically vulnerable but actually relatively healthy. None of us were vaccinated at that stage.

By February he was dead. Not covid although covid stopped me seeing him in the hospital in his last days. Thank god I didn't listen to all the hype in his last year and carried on seeing him.

We are safer now than in the first wave. Yes people have to be careful but if you are boosted and careful and you're family are careful and testing I really don't see the problem. Obviously if you are clinically vulnerable then you and the family you are mixing with have to be even more careful.

I'm hugely judging my totally healthy triple vacced in-laws in their early 60's who are choosing to stay at home (whilst still shopping and going to restaurants and god knows where else). It's a brilliant excuse for some.

the thought of 5 households (21 people) all together indoors was a little too much.

Tbf this sounds like my worst nightmare pandemic or not 😂

Two of them are cute little baby twins though, so they balance it out. Smile

We did family lateral tests tonight my oh is positive he’s ok apart from a slight cough . My child and I are negative atm . Everyone is sick and tired of all this .
Our plans for Christmas are over my elderly dad can’t come over either . I’ve booked a pcr for my OH tomorrow but I don’t think we will be seeing anyone this year
