I just spoke to a doctor at my gp regarding something anyways we got talking about covid. She said delta has long gone and it's all omicron now. She said the patience she is speaking to are fine at home and are doing well with selfcare even CEV

Has delta gone?

Sounds like shite to me

ivykaty44 · 23/12/2021 20:23

Delta wasn’t a successful virus, kept killing its host, would seem omicron has taken over & hitting all the target and more

Roundeartheratchriatmas · 23/12/2021 20:24

It’s been reported that omicron is now dominant yes.

Anatomical · 23/12/2021 20:25

Might depend on what part of the country you are in?

Lauren83 · 23/12/2021 20:27

The UK Health Service agency told me they won't test for different variants now you will get told it's positive but not which variant

Takemine · 23/12/2021 20:29

It's anecdotal, isn't it.

It would be great if that turns out to be the case but we just don't have the data yet. We always knew it was a mild disease for many. Your doctor won't have seen a large sample size.

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 23/12/2021 20:38

They're probably right in as much as that's the dominant one now, but then my GP and physio told me long covid isn't a thing so it's hard to know what to believe!!!

Sausagis · 23/12/2021 20:42

Where we are (Guernsey) they do sequence a small number daily and publish it.

"Between 5 and 10 positive cases are sequenced each day Monday – Friday to determine which variant of COVID-19 they are. So far, of the 196 cases sequenced on-island in total, 32 have been confirmed as Omicron cases."

Entirely from my memory (not reliable) I thought it was 19 cases just a few days ago, in which case we've seen a huge percentage rise in Omicron.

amicissimma · 23/12/2021 21:02

According to UKSHA on 18 & 19 December 90% of Covid cases were with SGTF (indicative of omicron). The percentage is thought to be growing so it must be approaching 100% in London soon. Probably lower in other regions, but the picture is changing fast.

Motorina · 23/12/2021 21:07

Remember the average GP only knows about the patients they're seeing. Which won't include the ones who took themselves to A+E two days ago struggling to breathe and were admitted.

They mostly get the broader picture - like the rest of us - from the news. Particularly right now, when everyone's running around like headless chickens to keep up with the workload and so probably aren't reading a lot of professional journals.

Zoe has stated that it is believed 75 percent of cases are omicron

And also that 50 percent of cold like symptoms people are getting is covid.

We've just had covid and it's been very much like a cold. Maybe we can assume we had omicron but who knows!

Sausagis · 27/12/2021 09:00

This thread may be dead now but in case anyone is still around, latest stats from Guernsey is 206 cases sequenced on-island in total, 41 confirmed as Omicron

Previously was 196 and 32, so 10 cases sequenced and 9 of them Omicron.
