Does the strength of the line on LET'S matter?

I may be clutching at straws here... DD1's days 6 and 7 are tomorrow and Christmas Day. We're hoping to see family on Boxing Day, having had to cancel all Christmas plans. She's still testing positive but the LFT line yesterday was much stronger than today's (same brand and packet of test). Does that mean anything or are there loads of other variables eg, amount of liquid etc?

I meant LFT of course...

You don't test to prove you're no longer contagious as it can show positive for 90 days. Just isolate for the 10 days unless there is a fever or feeling very unwell ( that's what rest and trave told ds)

A line is a line, no matter how faint it is.

I’m still showing positive on day 9 with the faintest line.

@Megacervixosaurus

I’m still showing positive on day 9 with the faintest line.

But you will probably still show a line tomorrow but won't be contagious.
DukeofEarlGrey · 23/12/2021 17:30

When I had Covid I found that the line faded as I got better - so it's a good sign, but a positive is still a positive however faint.

Goodwordguide · 23/12/2021 17:32

We're following the updated guidance that if you test negative on days 6 and 7, you don't need to isolate for 10 days.

Totally get a line is a line and she's still contagious, I was just hoping that a fainter line may mean there's more chance of a negative tomorrow... like I said, clutching at straws...

I wouldn't see family on day 8 when still testing positive no.

Megacervixosaurus · 23/12/2021 17:33

I think the OP is posting re the new guidance that you don’t need to isolate after day 7 if you’ve had a negative LFT on day 6 and 7.

So for that purpose, a line is a line, no matter how faint, and if on day 7 there’s still a faint line her daughter should continue to isolate.

My husband tested positive today. So checked gov guidance and it has changed
‘The self-isolation advice for people with coronavirus (COVID-19) has changed. It is now possible to end self-isolation after 7 days, following 2 negative LFD tests taken 24 hours apart. The first LFD test should not be taken before the sixth day.,
When my son had covid we isolated for whole 10 days but he was showing as negative by day 5. All our Christmas plans now cancelled 😞

To answer your question, which others seem to be missing, yes lines do get fainter in my experience before disappearing completely. My DH had a negative test whilst still feeling rough though whilst my asymptomatic daughter was still testing positive a fortnight later. So it does seem to be random! Good luck though.

Goodwordguide · 23/12/2021 17:37

Sorry to hear that 😔 , it's so disappointing isn't it?

I think I was unduly optimistic that DD1 would start testing negative by now (day 5) and hence we could see people on Boxing Day 🤦‍♀️

Mine are getting lighter so assume that's a good sign! I'm day 6 and hoping to be free by Monday instead of Tuesday as have got plans which we would really like to do.

Thank you! It's the randomness that's killing me 🤷‍♀️. Never mind, not much we can do about it - should have known by now not to make plans!!

DH was testing positive on LFT for almost two months after isolation ended, and he clearly wasn't actually positive by then!

You can get a positive test result for up to 90 days on LFTs and PCRs.

Good luck! Really hope your plans work out.

I think we should have left.more of a gap after day 7...
