Covid symptom of fatigue?

greyinganddecaying · 23/12/2021 10:34

My family have covid (not omicron). I don't so far, but I'm isolating with them.

Since the first tested positive I feel ridiculously tired - every task is like climbing a mountain, not matter how long I sleep, I'm still exhausted. I can only plan & achieve one task per day (yesterday was icing the Christmas cake, to give you an idea).

I test negative to each test I have, but feel like I've skipped covid & gone straight to long covid, that's how lifeless I feel.

Has anyone else found this? Is it a new covid symptom?

It always has been. I'd be expecting a positive test if I were you. Hope you feel better soon. Have you had a pcr or just lfts?

Pumpkin5piced · 23/12/2021 10:40

How do you know it’s not omicron?

Dozer · 23/12/2021 10:43

Have you had PCR? You may have covid too.

Alternatively, could just be due to the extra work/stress/disrupted sleep of caring for the family with covid on top of xmas and normal stuff.

It’s not ‘long covid’ if this is the initial infection.

LindaEllen · 23/12/2021 10:53

It can be a symptom, but I often find that when I'm just staying in the house it makes me feel quite lethargic - so the fact you're isolating with them could have a lot to do with it, particularly when it's gloomy and cold as well.

Egghead68 · 23/12/2021 10:54

It’s always been a symptom

greyinganddecaying · 23/12/2021 10:59

Thanks!
When my family tested positive I had to call them to clarify about isolation, I asked if they could tell us if it was omicron and was told that if it was they'd have said so & would be sending additional testing sets over (no mention/sign of them, so assuming delta or similar).

All my family have had positive lateral flows, then positive PCRs. I've consistently had negative lateral flows (kept testing as expected to come down with it too, but nothing yet). We're isolating for Christmas regardless, so I've not prioritised a PCR.

It could be the result of stopping work, being stuck in the house, etc but I've never felt fatigue/exhaustion like it!

I would be wanting a PCR personally.

They're only genetic sampling 1 in 10 positives at the mo and then extrapolating to get daily Omicron rates, there's not the physical resources to sample every positive.

Depending on where you are in the country it is likely to be Omicrin -definitely if London or Manchester but rates increasing everywhere

That's really interesting - I didn't know that.

I've had covid recently and apart from a runny nose for one day my only symptom was fatigue. I slept all night and most of the day (hours and hours) for over a week.
Otherwise I didn't feel ill;. as I was stuck in my room and not trying to do anything I didn't notice actual fatigue so much as being sleepy. When I finished isolating I found that I couldn't make a sandwich without needing a rest afterwards.
Do a pcr Test OP. Your symptoms sound similar.

greyinganddecaying · 23/12/2021 11:17

I'm starting to think a PCR might be a good idea. Although it won't make me feel better, it'll hopefully feel like there's an end in sight.

I've just been for aPCR today as am shattered, far more than usual Christmas overwhelm, and have a bit of a headache and scratchy throat. But main subprime is debilitating fatigue, nearly cried earlier at thought of going for a shower. Feel so pathetic

Ihearthosesleighbellsringing · 23/12/2021 11:25

I have covid now and my symptoms are what you're describing and also a terrible lower back pain, did have a continuous headache at the start but that's intermittent now. I don't even know how I'm going to wrap my children's Christmas presents and it's only me here so no one to help.
I just went into the kitchen to make some toast and had to come back to the sofa as I don't even have the energy to do that.

You should definitely pcr just to check. I'm assuming omicron as all the reports on it and the symptoms are what I have.

I was in the same boat as you and ended up testing positive on day 10 of the last one who tested positive. I now wonder if I had low levels not showing up on tests. But in my case at least, I think I was also feeling so low because they all had it, one of them quite badly, and we had to cancel loads of stuff because of it. I think it was also a cloud over my head, having to test each day. So a bit of stress, a bit of depression, a bit of lethargy from sitting around and probably, in the end, a bit of low level Covid. Now I am confirmed positive, I am sleeping less and just feel a bit groggy.

greyinganddecaying · 23/12/2021 13:59

Your symptoms sound just like me! I was telling myself that because I don't have a cough/high temperature (like the others) & testing negative on LFT, it couldn't be covid - sounds like I might be wrong.

Will see if I can book a test.

Hope you're all feeling better soon

greyinganddecaying · 24/12/2021 11:53

I'm still testing negative on LFT so booked myself in for a PCR. Results are taking so long to come back around here that it'll probably be new year before I get them!

AlexaShutUp · 24/12/2021 11:55

I tested negative on LTFs throughout covid. My PCR was positive.

walksen · 24/12/2021 11:57

I had covid last year and fatigue was my main symptom and lasted for a few months. I'd go straight to bed from work. Some colleagues who were younger went for pcr's as they had partners etc test positive and this was their main symptom.

Hopefully since you've presumably been vaccinated it won't last too long.

DH had back pain with covid at the start of December and now has also read its an omicron symptom. I assume our outbreak was omicron as well although can't be sure of course.

Oh wow. Yes to back pain! Wtf is that?

Positive LFT this morning so just been for PCR. Have scratchy throat and cough but the back pain is new!
