Should I be worried?

I had Covid early in November (Delta) and wasn't exceptionally ill. I stayed in bed for a week, had mild breathlessness and mostly head cold symptoms, only lost my smell, not taste. After finishing isolation I felt about 80% improved in the first week, and in the second week I felt absolutely fine. Exactly 28 days post-isolation I had my booster (Moderna) - that was just over 2 weeks ago.

For the last week I've had breathlessness that's been getting progressively worse. It feels like I can't comfortably fill my lungs all the time. This was happening every few hours about a week ago and it's now every hour. I don't want to burden the NHS right now if this is just part of Covid recovery (it's been less than 12 weeks). I'm functioning fine otherwise but it's uncomfortable.

Has anyone else experienced this? Should I be worried?

That’s a 111 job for me but don’t be surprised if they ask you to go in to be checked over.

Haggisfish3 · 21/12/2021 19:09

I’d also call. I have been very slightly breathless after booster but not like you describe.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 21/12/2021 19:10

In fact, given this is a listed side effect of Moderna I think I’d be hot footing it to A&E - www.gov.uk/government/publications/regulatory-approval-of-covid-19-vaccine-moderna/information-for-uk-recipients-on-covid-19-vaccine-moderna

Try and get hold of an oximeter to test oxygen levels? Have you tried doing a LFT?

Santaslittlemelter · 21/12/2021 19:11

I'd be using an oximeter to check oxygen levels. And resting as much as possible adding oxygen levels were ok. But yes, do give Dr or professionals shout if you feel the need.

I considered ordering one but when I read the reviews which were mixed on accuracy. I have a pre-arranged appointment with the nurse (on an unrelated matter) on Thursday and may have to use that for this instead. Presumably she will be able to do the oximeter test?

A lot of newer phones have oximeters built in.

Motorina · 21/12/2021 19:25

Sorry, the only thing anyone can say about worsening breathlessness is that you need proper medical assessment. If it were me, I wouldn't be waiting til Thursday. And I think it likely that the nurse will send you to A+E anyway. Sorry.

Thanks all. I rang 111 and am now waiting for someone to ring me back. It's been nearly 2 hours which I think is indicative of how busy they are.

My mum had to wait thirteen hours recently. Sigh!

CouldThisReallyBe · 22/12/2021 00:25

oh wow @Haggisfish3 that's useful information, thanks - I think I'll go to bed.

So...for anyone who's interested. I ended up in A&E last night. They ruled out heart inflammation or any chest infection. But couldn't/wouldn't rule out the breathlessness being related to having had Covid or the booster vaccine. Referred me back to the GP to do further investigation.

I hope it improves.
