Ok big crowds but mostly outside; as far as I can see things like gigs inside are still going on where people are more likely to be close up and personal too?

I’m just not understanding the logic, we are told outside is safer. Anyone able to help?

And for full disclosure I’m in Scotland so no personal impact just baffled.

@Deadcanary1 the period products issue was in 1 Tesco store near me. What actually happened was they had a break in through the roof and cordoned off an aisle which happened to be the sanitary products.

People thought it was cordoned off as non-essential and Tweeted Tesco HQ. The SM team just put up a standard message about non essential items not being sold in Wales and it blew up from there.

By then it was too late and the media latched on to it. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/oct/26/welsh-lockdown-confusion-tesco-tweet-claims-cannot-sell-period-pads

The day security guard said they made off with electric toothbrushes of all things Confused

The working from home finds worry me if we go that way. I’ve got two team members who technically could but are in the office one full time one twice a week because of their mental well-being. One ended up off sick when they tried full time home working. Are there exemptions for that type of thing?

@RJnomore1 it's all completely unenforceable anyway! Who is going to police it? The man's an absolute bellend. Supposedly a socialist government. Drakeford's labour have completely lost touch with the population, and are becoming more puritanical and dictatorial by the day!
The pubs and restaurants where I live were teaming with Welsh people when tougher restrictions were introduced in Wales!

AlecTrevelyan006 · 22/12/2021 12:28

Drakeford has completely lost the plot

The new restrictions are insane!

RJnomore1 · 22/12/2021 12:36

He’s actually making the SG look considered...

@thevassal

The new restrictions are insane!
Why? They are, for example, less stringent than the measures that were implemented in the Netherlands in response to a rise in cases a week or so back - and my understanding is that the health service in the Netherlands is not in the same straits as Wales' are?

Yes, the restrictions in Wales are different from those in England. They reflect a different philosophy, partially based on geographical and funding differences, partly based simply on the type of leader Drakeford is (paternalistic, academic, cautious). That does not make them wrong and those in England right.

Because he is going to be spending a hell of a lot of money compensating venues for having to cancel their Christmas plans - we are talking nearly 2 million quid a night per showing of beauty and the beast in the WMC, for example, for three weeks. All the tickets bought for sporting fixtures. Money to nightclubs for cancelling their biggest nights of the year. All of which to support measures there is little practical evidence will achieve anything. If he had been proactive and put that money towards care/nhs that would do a huge amount more to protect the NHS, which is apparently what this is all about, by making sure there are beds and staff available and it is fit for purpose, than retroactively compensating completely different industries.

Because there is no logic behind most of them- why would family members (like mine) meeting together in our houses on Christmas day be fine but meeting together in a pub the next day be an issue. Why are babies being counted in the rule of six? Why is outdoor iceskating an issue (winter wonderland has stopped taking bookings)? What danger do 51 people at a football match pose that 51 people at a wedding (more likely to be drunk, In an enclosed space, generally last much longer than a match) don't?

Because they are not very clear -why say groups of six max in hospitality like theatre and cinemas but then a maximum of 30 per indoor event?

Because all of the other times Waales has gone above and beyond England with restrictions they have never worked.. Circuit breaker last October? Didn't work. Last of the UK to introduce bubbles for single people....no difference in rates, big difference in mental health. Kept masks and wfh if possible compulsory all summer = still hugely higher case rates than England throughout. The insane policy last winter where luxuries like duvets or clothes for children were blocked off by crates of "essential" alcohol...no discernable effect.

Just a few reasons....

thevassal · 22/12/2021 15:35

@MrsLeClerk - ooh you must live near to me. It was also the first tesco that had to officially ban people shopping in their pyjamas #claimtofame!

AndSoFinally · 22/12/2021 17:08

Well they'll be more than 6 in total in the restaurant won't there?!

Random strangers mixing at football is slightly different than friends and relatives mixing at a wedding.

Time will tell if it's the right approach but I do think there's more logic behind it than you're giving credit for

Confusedandworried321 · 22/12/2021 17:22

@thevassal where does it say babies are counted in the rule of six?

Wrinklyeyes · 22/12/2021 17:28

In fact, the main result of devolution seems to be a sort of ploddingly grim-faced contrarianism, with the Scottish and Welsh governments basically looking at what Westminster does and then loudly choosing to do the opposite. OK then.

100% agree with this. It’s depressing and predictable. The new rules in Wales are a contradictory mess. The arbitrary 6 in a pub which will push people to have house parties instead. No spectators in the (outdoor) grounds but people can still watch from the (indoor) clubhouse. But as long as it’s different from England, Drakeford can congratulate himself.
