Am I supposed to notify anyone
To make things worse ive got a complicated pregnancy and already been admitted to hospital more then 5 times in the last 3 weeks because of my kidneys. Not sure what I'm supposed to do. Do I need to do a PCR or is the lateral flow adequate?
I'm worried if I need to go to hospital I can't get treatment 🥺

My midwife told me to let her know if I got Covid because they would prescribe blood thinners.

RedSnail · 21/12/2021 07:42

You need to do a PCR

TallulahsCurse · 21/12/2021 07:44

Yes tell your MW. I know for sure in my trust the pre / post natal wards are the same as any other ward - there's a covid side and a non covid side so you will be able to be treated if you need. You definitely need to tell them especially as you are already having complications requiring treatment, if only so that they know where to treat you now if you need anything.

Megan2018 · 21/12/2021 07:44

Do a PCR, I have had several false positive lateral flows.
Tell your midwife, they can decide if it changes anything in terms of your monitoring etc.
Odds are you will be perfectly fine, but be vigilant.

ChristmasCovid · 21/12/2021 07:44

Sorry to hear you have Covid
Do a pcr test it will be recorded on your medical records then.
Contact your midwife to let them know.

Rest up and look after yourself - do you have symptoms? Have you had the vaccines?

@Misty84

Exactly this. You need to contact them. You'll need blood thinning injections.
playingdevilsavocado · 21/12/2021 07:47

Do a PCR and tell your midwife - it’s the best thing you can do to keep yourself and your baby safe. If you need treatment for anything you won’t be refused because of being positive for covid. But if the staff know you are positive they can make sure you get all the right treatments and also can protect other patients and themselves against spreading the infection.
Must be stressful but don’t panic, high chance it will be mild infection.

Yes - they're drive through you don't get out the car.
PinkPlantCase · 21/12/2021 08:08

Hi OP yes they will stop treat you, medical staff will now have a reasonable amount of experience with treating patients who need their care but also have covid.

Hope all goes well and it’s nothing more than a bad cold for you x

PinkPlantCase · 21/12/2021 08:08

*they will STILL treat you

DrunkenKoala · 21/12/2021 08:17

You can drive yourself to the PCR - if feeling well enough.
A positive PCR results text tells you to consult with your midwife.

Pensieve · 21/12/2021 08:20

Hope all goes well OP.

I had blood thinner injections throughout pregnancy and lots of other times (for another reason). Don’t worry 🙂

Makingnumber2 · 21/12/2021 08:36

Sorry to hear you’ve got covid OP. My hospital trust repeatedly posted all over social media yday that they want pregnant women to contact them if they test covid positive just so you can be monitored over phone by designated covid midwife and if any pregnant woman who has covid has any concerns about baby or pregnancy they should contact EPU or maternity triage as normal- just make it clear you are covid positive on phone so they can ensure staff are adequately protected when you come in. They even put they may send someone out to you rather than have you come in. So definitely let them know and if you have any worries around movement or anything else always call triage as usual.

cultkid · 21/12/2021 10:00

Thank you so much all I've ordered a postal pcr as my husband is also sick and my kidneys are too bad at the moment for me to sit in the car for a test.
I rang daycare and they asked me to do a PCR so they can prescribe Clexane (ouch!) I'm hoping the fact I'm slim and usually active will help with the whole clot scenario
Thanks for the advice I feel so dissapointed Christmas is ruined for the second year in a row and I am trapped in the house now until the new year 😞 the midwife also said I can still ofcourse come to the hospital if I need any treatment just to give them a call first so they can make sure they have a room ready. I felt like crying with relief to know I can still get help. Such a nervous time xx
