I’m in Mexico. Seven types of COVID-19 vaccine have been approved for use in the country for the initial COVID vaccination: AstraZeneca, CanSino, COVAX, India Surem Institute, Janssen, Pfizer, and Sputnik V. (Boosters are AZ only at the moment, regardless of the original vaccine given.) The vaccine programme started here in December 2020 and rolled out incrementally (vulnerable groups first). It's only been since July 2021 that all adults could get the vaccine.
Some of these vaccines are in very limited use - for example, CanSino (a Chinese one-dose vaccine which is only approved in about 15 countries) was used for military and diplomatic personnel from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and perhaps a few other countries, it was/is not generally given out to Mexican or resident foreign civilians. Most people I know (I’m in Mexico City) received AZ or Pfizer and had some choice in what they got (original vacs required registration, boosters are walk-in) but there are likely many rural areas where a smaller choice of vaccines is available at any given time, or perhaps only one.
Vaccination is only available here (through official channels - I don’t know what happens off-grid) for Mexican citizens and foreigners with a CURP (residence permit). I am not sure which category Carlos Marín fell into, or where and when he was vaccinated.
Of course, his death is devastating to family, friends, and fans regardless.
