Met friends at the park yesterday, kids playing together and today one of their kids have a positive LFT. No symptoms. Is it likely we will be close contacts? Should we just book PCRs for tomorrow and get them over with? Or will test and protect (Scotland) contact us if they have a positive PCR then we would book? I can't find anything specific on the website. Is it too soon to get a positive PCR? None of us have symptoms and all negative LFTs.

You dont need to go for tests unless contacted but you can book yourself if you want. It would take a couple days for you to be infected though so probably aswell waiting.

When my son tested positive they only wanted details of people in the same household and the school he went to. It said in the track and trace for when under 11 you don't need to give more than that. I'm in Scotland too but this was last month before omicrom was dominant.

Thank you that's really helpful. It's just the worst timing, I don't mind having to isolate over Christmas really but I don't want to do it unnecessarily. We ended up booking PCRs anyway for today just so we know before Christmas, and don't end up contacted on Christmas Eve to say we have to get PCRs. What a shit show 🙈🙈

I would have done the same. I booked pcr straight away because then its done and you can keep an eye on it with lateral flows afterwards if you don't get symptoms. Fingers crossed you are all negative!

Incubation is at least a couple of days, the likelihood of a positive result 24 hrs after meeting is low but that doesn't mean that you will be negative 48hrs after that.

I read the ideal time to get tested was three days after contact as the virus has had time to incubate and be detected. I actually know of a couple of people who've tested negative around 48 hours, but gone onto have a positive test around 5/6 when they had symptoms.

Agree with this, I’d probably leave it a day or two.

It will be 48 hours from contact when we do the PCRs today. I thought it seemed early too. It's so hard to know what to do with all the conflicting advice. When children at my daughter's nursery have tested positive we have always been told she is a low risk contact and would only need a test if she showed symptoms. Never mind we are off for tests later today and can get retested if we show symptoms. The likelyhood is we won't catch it anyway considering it was outdoor contact and I don't think the adults were within 2 metres of the child but my daughter will have been. Such a shame!
