My son's friend had a positive LTF test

How likely is my son to have covid?

Friend had positive ltf today (awaiting pcr result). DS spent a couple of hours with him on Saturday, including about ten minutes looking at a laptop together. His LTF today was negative. Kids are 11.

I know it's how long is a piece of string but am desperately worried as DH is CEV and we are super careful

Impossible to say!

My DD has symptoms (of a cold) since Friday. Neg LFT’s until Sunday (waiting for PCR now).
The rest of us including CEV dh still neg on LFT.

Everyone is different and no one can answer your question. Fingers crossed for you though.

I didn’t get Covid from my toddler and she literally licks my face. Neither did DH. We didn’t attempt any form of isolation from her or take any precautions as we assumed we’d get it regardless.
It’s very hard to say-it seems entirely random.

I didn’t catch COVID from my teen daughter, we were informed by friend that they had just tested positive after my daughter had just spent 4 days with them. I spent about 2 hours with daughter, cuddling on sofa and she had kissed me before we were informed and tested her. She then decided to self isolate as she was worried about passing it on and nobody else in the family home contracted it.

User310 · 21/12/2021 03:30

Just in case wasn’t clear DD also tested positive.

TallulahsCurse · 21/12/2021 07:51

You do realise OP that your DS will have been / will be in school constantly with kids whose parents have covid at home, but because they're under 18 they don't need to isolate... And some of those children will likely also have covid.

There's no point at all worrying around one case, when your DS will be exposed a lot more than that.

Bagelsandbrie · 21/12/2021 07:53

Totally impossible to say. He may not get it at all. My dd is home from university and just before she left 5 out of 6 of her friends tested positive. She’s been here almost a week and done lfts every day and tested negative the whole time. Really odd. She’s been practically living with the friends.

I didn't catch it from my three Covid positive children, who spent ten days (plus incubation time) flopped and sneezing all over me. They didn't isolate upstairs as I figured they'd already breathed it over me for days so I was bound to catch it anyway.

Recently, DS1 spent most of his lessons for several days sitting next to a friend who tested positive for Omicron (and wasn't wearing a mask). He also ate lunch with him daily, squeezed right up to him and having to shout to be heard in the busy dining hall. Tested daily and is still fine ten days later. I should point out that multiple others did catch it (several just had Delta then got vaccinated and still got Omicron) so it is clearly highly contagious!

This.

I know of people who have NOT caught it from their partners, while sharing a bed with them.

My friends youngest two children have just recovered from Covid and the two parents and the older teenager ( all vaccinated ) didn’t catch it.

Both parents have worked in high risk NHS jobs ( one in ICU with covid patients ) throughout the pandemic and never caught it.

While others have caught it from a tradesperson visiting their home to do a repair for an hour or so.

It does seem random ( though I’m sure it’s not ).

But what we DO know beyond any doubt is that you are safer with a vaccine than without. And I’m assuming that you and your CEV husband are both fully vaccinated and booster.

I understand how worrying it is but hopefully you will be OK.

DD went to a sleepover with her friends she Spends all day with at school, came home ill and was +, all of her friends were - . Cuddled up to me whilst ill, accidentally coughed and sneezed in my face whilst looking up to tell me something and I never got it. Its the weirdest illness.

Thank you, yes both double jabbed and boosted. There is so much about at the moment. But agree it feels pretty random and of course it was a daft question so I appreciate you all answering

My DD’s PCR came back positive…. The rest of us are still negative on LFT’s even though her brother isn’t vaccinated (he’s 11).
Fingers crossed it stays that way!
I was in the car with her for 2 hours when she had (cold) symptoms and would have been the most infectious 🤷‍♀️

Hellocatshome · 22/12/2021 20:27

Impossible to say. Take him for a PCR test. My 11 year old travelled to and from school in a car then sat next to his friend all day at school his friend tested positive, he didn't.
