My daughter tested positive.

Independently of that, she also has sprained her foot badly and I want a doctor to see her about that. She can't walk. She probably needs an X-ray.
How do I take her to the A&E since she's tested positive?

I contacted 111, currently waiting for a call back and thought to check here in case someone had a similar experience.

You've done the right thing. There are protocols in place for covid positive patients. Is she old enough to be there alone?

JanglyBeads · 20/12/2021 16:38

She’s allowed to leave home to receive medical treatment OP.

A sprain doesn't usually get x-rayed. They would just give you a tubigrip and send you home. Anyway I'm sure 111 will tell you what to do.

PurpleDaisies · 20/12/2021 16:40

Urgent medical care is one of the reasons you can leave self isolation.
111 will be able to advise where’s best to go locally.

Bad sprains are x-rayed to rule out breaks. Often NBI injuries are x-rayed for diagnostic purposes.

Can you R.I.C.E. It ? Rest , Ice , Compression , Elevate . Take paracetamol for pain.

Suranjeep · 20/12/2021 16:43

The 111 people will call you back with an appointment to go to a special area where they can deal with it.

That's not the point.

The OP has done exactly the right thing. 111 will be able to sort out where she can be taken for safe treatment so that other patients and healthcare workers risks of exposure are minimised.

I have no direct experience so unsure of protocol now, but do pack a bag for her and you just in case you both have to go somewhere and wait a long time. Pack snacks, drinks, warm clothes, chargers. They might send her in by herself depending on her age, so prepare her for that including a list of phone numbers, medications, etc

sleepyshiftworker · 20/12/2021 17:13

You'll be triaged at the door of A&E and sent to the appropriate place. Good luck.

gogginsmrs · 20/12/2021 17:26

We had similar and a portable X-ray machine was used - was in a side room also

JanglyBeads · 20/12/2021 22:09

I thought it was!

They have 'hot' and 'cold' sections of A&E now so tell them she is Covid positive and they'll direct her through the hot section.

Be warned, though, that you will be there for a long time. Could be a 10-12 hour wait at the moment for what you've described as emergency services are so busy. Have you asked your GP if they can do an urgent referral for an X ray to save you that wait?
