Delaying booster jab

I had covid a month ago. Was due to have my booster a couple of days after I tested positive, so obviously postponed. Got a new appointment for a couple of weeks. I'm wondering if I should wait and have it further down the line. Surely I will have natural immunity for at least a few months anyway. so better to get boosted when immunity starts to wane.
Also, the booster doesn't protect against the Omnicom variant.anyway, which is the one I'm likely to get next! Any thoughts? Has anyone decided to do this?

I had Covid a couple of months ago after two AZ vaccinations. Decided to have the booster, but I know how you feel, as I thought the same.

Grimbelina · 20/12/2021 11:46

Deadcanary1 I am also looking at this (as have C now after two AZ) and looked at the research that showed longer gaps gave better protection. I am minded to delay the booster if my antibody levels are high (from private testing).

The WHO are an advisory body and don’t have a good track record with Covid.
I had Covid in September and had booster last week. I didn’t produce antibodies after first dose of Covid in Feb 2020, probably T cell mediated immunity. So I’m not relying on natural antibody immunity.
It’s interesting how people forget that the majority of vaccination programmes involve 3 vaccinations to achieve long term immunity. Even then regular boosters are often given throughout life.

@Iwonder08

In some countries they wouldn't vaccinate if you had covid within 6 month and it is for health reasons rather than logistic. Here you can have as long as you are no longer isolating. Everywhere they claim their approach is right, interestingly enough based on the same scientific data. OP, make your own decision based in what you think is based.
Yeah, there's no consensus across the scientific community about the best course of action. I will be taking my time about making a decision. I will cancel my appointment for now!

I had two AZ and it seems my 3rd could also be AZ I’m not sure how that gives me more protection than my recent covid Infection. I had thought 3rd one would always be different from your previous to mix it up but that’s not the case.

I thought the whole point of the booster was to have a different one to the first two?

OP have then booster. The only way we're going to get out of this mess is to trust what they're telling us and not make up bonkers theories of our own. Ds has had covid and got himself off for the second jab as soon as he could and will have the booster at the end of Jan.

**have the booster

Sounds like a good plan! I might well do the same.

OP if you don't need/want it yet, leave it a few weeks and let those who want it now, get it. It will still be available in a few weeks' time.

Edinvillian · 20/12/2021 15:35

I got mine 4 weeks after having covid, to be honest I probably wouldn't have if they weren't giving the flu jabs at the same time and I wanted that. However, this was before omicron so I would get it if I was you.

Is that outside the UK? I thought that you could only have a MRNA vaccine as a booster in the UK unless there were contraindications.

I had two AZ and will have the booster tomorrow, almost six months to the day since I had my second dose. I think I will get Pfizer from the centre I am going to.

This is like an anti vaxxer thread dressed up to pretend it’s not.

Op, you don’t want it, fair enough. Why start the thread? Your mind was already made up.

hamstersarse · 20/12/2021 16:00

Everything is anti-vaxx unless you are totally 100% in support of every aspect of the vaccine rollout

XiCi · 20/12/2021 16:03

You can't have an AZ booster. It will be Pfizer or Moderna

I had thought 3rd one would always be different from your previous to mix it up but that’s not the case.
No it doesn't have to be different (I've had 3 pfizer) but it does have to be an MRNA vaccine

Babdoc · 20/12/2021 16:04

A Pfizer or Moderna booster will raise your current 30% protection against the Omicron variant to 70% protection, OP.

Terzani · 20/12/2021 16:50

In your case, after 2 doses, covid WAS the booster. So you probably have hybrid immunity, which is the best (vaccine + illness). You can always check your antibodies before any decision about future jabs.

Thank you. I had no idea you could get an antibody test privately. I though you would have to be part of a trial of something. I think I'll probably do this and then take it from there.
