My son has covid. His symptoms started within hours of my booster three days ago and I was AZ six months before that. I’m in London so highly likely it’s omicron and I’m essentially unprotected… I’ve woken up today with full body aches. Fuck.

I'd bet big money you'll be fine. Sounds like you have it but you've done all you can vaccination wise so just prepare for isolation and try to make it as nice as possible for you both over Christmas. Hope the symptoms are gone in a day or so!

Marcipex · 20/12/2021 05:20

I’m sorry you feel awful, but you’ll be fine in a couple of days.
It’s so rife now that it’s hard to avoid.

What are you worried about? You sound as if you expect to die from it. In reality you'll likely have cold symptoms for a few days, that's all. My DH had it the other week, he barely noticed he had it, we only found out because I insisted he got a pcr because I heard him cough a couple of times.

ScrumptiousBears · 20/12/2021 05:27

Both my DD have it but so far me and DP have swerved it but it's only a matter of time I imagine.

A colleague of mine who is completely unvaccinated got it 2 weeks ago and had 5 days of a bad cold/chesty cough and high temperature but he could remain working from home so it can't have been that bad.

Do you have any lateral flow tests to check?

Sorry to see this OP, and I'm sure you're very upset and worried but the chances are you - and your son - will be fine, no worse than if you'd got the usual winter cold or flu. The majority of cases ARE like this.

Try and sort practical stuff out ASAP, like make sure you've got easy foods in (soup, beans on toast, stuff you can microwave, a bit of ice cream) and some paracetamol/pain killers. Keep your fluid intake up, flush the illness out! Then just get under the covers, stick Netflix on...

Probably your Christmas plans - if you had any - will need to change but ultimately it is just another day really. And it's a week away by which time you'll both be feeling heaps better.

Sorry if I’m giving the impression I think I’m going to die. I don’t. I’m just really fed up and upset about it being Christmas and just wallowing in self pity.
Maybe it will magically cure my long covid, every cloud and all that.

If you have long covid I absolutely get why you are concerned. I have it too and would be apprehensive if caught covid again. All you can do is rest and treat symptoms as they arise. I’m sure you will be ok. Take care !

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you’ll feel better as it gets closer to Christmas x

I'm so sorry OP. I'm in pretty much the same boat except it's me that has covid (along with every single person in my department at work) and essentially all our Christmas plans are now shelved. I'm trying to stay upbeat for the kids and have been honest with them - we are going to make the absolute best of it for each other and be grateful for what we have. We can always do Christmas another time. Good luck, though - it is shit and u hope that any symptoms you all get remain mild. Flowers
