If schools don’t reopen after Christmas….

I know it’s a big hypothetical if, but if schools don’t reopen after Christmas is there generally a provision for key worker children in year seven?

Yes there will be.
Year 7s will also get priority over year 8s, 9s and 10s if they’re not classed as vulnerable.

At my secondary school, vulnerable pupils and children of key workers were all able to work in the library. They were supervised by support staff and used the computers to access the same online learning as pupils at home. So, yes, Year 7 would be catered for (in fact, there tended to be a lot more y7/8 pupils than y10/11 as the older pupils were more able to work from home alone).

Depends on staffing. There were very limited places for Yr 7 pupils in my DC’s school last time. Most energy/staffing went into exam years.

Yes in my dcs school year 7s were automatically given a place if parents were front line. Y8-13 were done on a case by case basis decided by the head of year. My dns school did similar.

Yes dd went into Keyworker provision last year when she was in year 7. It was open to all years ( but mainly used by years 7 and 8).

Thankyou, fingers crossed it won’t get to this point but at least I won’t have to do nights (hopefully) if anything does happen!

Af DD’s school year 11 were sitting in front of a computer joining online learning with others, they were supervised by non teaching staff. I suspect year 7 were the same. It’s very difficult to get a place in general.

BlackeyedSusan · 19/12/2021 22:41

Y8 went in last year as vulnerable. (Didn't bloody work in lockdown one)

cheninblanc · 19/12/2021 22:49

Yes my dd went in in 2020 year 9 and again in 2021 year 10. I've moved roles now and can wfh do unlikely she'll go in if close again as I can support from home

PineappleWilson · 20/12/2021 09:42

OP, there's no way I'd leave my (now year 8) DS at home alone, never mind when he was in Year 7, but don't expect proper teaching just, as mentioned above, supervised access to PCs for the same online working others are doing from home.

Freedom day has been and gone. Boris made it very clear that there was not going back to the restrictions that existed before.

If Chief Liar says it, we can assume the opposite.

cansu · 20/12/2021 09:46

the issue will be if there isn't a lockdown but instead there are ad hoc closures. I think this will be more likely and will instead mean that year groups will be sent home as there aren't enough staff and this could mean that one day Y7 are off and then the next Year 8 etc. This will mean no key worker provision as it will be localised, not a lockdown and intermittent.

cansu · 20/12/2021 09:48

I think you should also be aware that previously Year 7 has not been prioritised or in person provision. In a high school exam classes are prioritised.

My Y8 daughter went last year for keyworker and the school bus ran as well
