To think rates are going down because people are choosing not to have PCRs?

Two of my friendship group have this weekend told me that they have symptoms, have got a positive lateral flow, but have decided not to go for a PCR test as a positive result means they would have to isolate over Christmas.

Instead they are going to carry on with their lives as normal for the next few days ‘because it would be a shame to have to make the children stay home’ with them.

Personally I think it’s a disgrace but anyway…

AIBU to think the drop in rates over the past few days is not because Covid cases are falling but instead because selfish people don’t want to isolate until 28th Dec?

@StormBaby
I'm so sorry you are having such a rotten time 😥.
And for.rhose who say there's no reason to report a positive test, may I say that after even a mild dose of Covid and a 'recovery' that can be followed by a sudden descent into Long Covid. How are you going to ask for medical help for Long Covid if you can't prove you've had Covid in the first place.

You can order PCR online. DH ordered 1 and got it delivered 2 days later. Posted back same day. It is pure laziness not to try to get one.

@icequeen01, in case you get long Covid you need to have you got Covid in your medical notes. It is not recorded with a +LF test only official PCR test.

@StormBaby

I tested positive on a LFT yesterday at work, came straight home and did the PCR. Am awaiting results and getting a load of shit from work for doing so. It makes me so angry. 🤯

One of the senior managers at work was stood next to me as he threw his faintly positive LFT in the bin, shhhhh’d me, and said he’d never taken a day off sick in 35 years at work and wasn’t about to start now.

He’s an idiot. There’s no medal for not taking a day off sick. The fact we’ve been conditioned to prioritise work over our health says a lot about our society. You did the right thing Smile

@caringcarer I think you may have got me mixed up with another poster whose post I had quoted. I've currently got Covid which is my second time. Each time I have taken a PCR so it's logged on my records 😀 I was trying to explain to another poster that it is essential you get it in your medical records.

For those who choose to ignore and carry on with life - my 7 year old is in the hospital because one of you decided you didn’t want to isolate. Thank you.

@caringcarer with people with long covid they can test to see if they are likely to have had it but this was before vaccines but not sure they still can with vaccinated people. One of the parents in school was tested and it was determined he'd had it but he didn't even know it but this was before vaccines. But is not quite true they won't accept lateral flow, if you haven't been able to get a PCR test for example due to shortages they will still put a positive lateral flow on your medical notes this has been confirmed by the GP. I always do a lateral flow for the doctor whilst I wait for my test kit so the doctor has a better idea of what treatment I should have and if I ever get a positive PCR I am to call the doctor back to change treatment, luckily all my tests including PCRs have been negative
