How "stressed" do you think those in power are currently?

Some big decisions to be made I the coming days, I think. Until very recently I felt that we'd more or less carry on as normal whilst being asked to be "sensible". I was convinced govt knew social restrictions wouldn't get public (or political) buy in and that wholesale closures would be avoided at all costs. Now I'm not so sure.

Where i work a crisis like this would be sending decision makers' and their assistants' stress levels through the roof, go government feel it the same way or is it all in a day's work, with big (if less public) decisions made daily?

I suppose you have to care about the outcome to be stressed, do they care about "their people"? Even if they don't, they do care about the impact on their careers and their legacy...?

As a decision maker myself (not covid!) it's about keeping a level head. Removing emotion and looking at all the facts (not assuming, if the facts aren't presented you hunt them out) and making the decision that will affect the least number of people Vs managing the risk in terms of immediate and long term health but also economics going forward.

The issue with this decision is actually quite simple. Its will the infrastructure cope? Is the population at risk of death? What will be the economic and social hit of a lockdown, and can the government financially bolster this?

Infrastructure is at risk at the moment. People contact needs to reduce, movement needs to be restricted. Its how to do this while economically taking the hit and supporting the businesses that need it AND attempting to minimise the social impact.

The sooner the better but that's very unpopular and economic suicide for many businesses. There will be limits in what we can afford to do as a country.

It really is a game of stats and science. Mass events need to stop today! Vaccine passports needed for all public social venues, pubs, churches etc (numbers reduced). Those not vaccinated need to lockdown and stay out the way, those at high risk sheild, 2 jabs and limit social interactions. 3 (2 weeks after) jabs socially distance, meet outside and limit contact. Do not travel for Christmas, reduce numbers and get together for 1 day only.

They didn't look very stressed last November/December when they were having parties every night.

I don't know, in my 30+ year working life, the most stressy roles also have the hardest partying.

They’re bare faced liars and blag everything. They’ll wait it out until things blow over, they’ve gotten away with murder so far so are emboldened.

Any job that carries so much responsibility is stressful as a matter of course. But the people doing it thrive on the pressure and handle it well. I'd say yes this is a more pressured situation than some, not least because it (covid) is not something they can control, they can only try to mitigate the spread, and also their decisions affect the public who are vocal in their opinions on those decisions.

It takes a certain sort of person to be able to make decisions like this without feeling stressed

judging by how they lovingly show, time and time again, how much they care about "their people", yet they're still in their posts two yrs down the line.... I'd say they are laughing in our faces drunk with power.

I hear, in Austria there may be a change in govt for the exact same wrongdoing (govt officials partying during lockdown) whereas in the UK they can get away with literally anything!!

Do they get away with it? That by election result is pretty damning and will lead to changes I think. Peole have lost their jobs.

The cocaine they're fond of probably helps. But kind of worrying when you realise the country's run by drug-fiends
