Booster campaign misleading

walkingonsand · 19/12/2021 08:26

I am triple jabbed and work in the medical profession. I believe the governments campaign is misleading people to think they won't catch omicron once they've had a booster- this is simply not true. Early data is showing many triple jabbed people are indeed currently infected with omicron.

What we hope the booster will do is prevent a huge amount of people from dying from Covid which is a wonderful thing, and THE reason to have the booster. However the public will lose faith in the government if they continue to imply that they won't catch Covid once they're triple jabbed.

Thankfully the emerging data is so far showing omicron to be a mild illness, far milder than its predecessors. But it is too early to make sweeping predictions......

I don't think it is. Just saying it will boost your chances of not ending up in hospital with it.

Kbish1 · 19/12/2021 08:28

I haven't seen anything saying I won't get it if I have a booster.

Not sure why people would think that. Maybe I haven't seen the specific campaign you are talking about.

Scarby9 · 19/12/2021 08:31

Which campaign?
From what I have heard, the booster massively increases chances of fewer people being seriously ill, even with Omicron.
I haven't seen any campaign that suggests you won't catch Covid because of the booster.

Justcannotbearsed · 19/12/2021 08:33

I think some people think the jabs, any of them, stop you getting it, but most people have got the message that it makes it less likely you catch it and the symptoms should be milder.

I’m not sure the government messaging is wrong. But some parts of the media and social media have been irresponsible.

gogohm · 19/12/2021 08:34

The campaign and figures are clear - if you are boosted you are less likely to get ill. Catching the virus (as in testing and you have it asymptomatically) is common unfortunately but if we all were vaccinated we wouldn't need to worry about isolating if we weren't ill

rainrainraincamedowndowndown · 19/12/2021 08:40

I don't think that's what they said at all. Message was clear enough for me, the booster is to prevent severe illness or death.

ShepherdMoons · 19/12/2021 08:41

Yes, I think they are using the booster campaign to divert people from the reality that actually they know very little about the new strain and how people ill people might get with it.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 19/12/2021 08:41

I’ve Always thought the jab was to stop people being ill/dying and if it could prevent transmission that would be a bonus!

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 19/12/2021 08:43

The medical version of mild and what I think of as mild are two different things.
Medical mild is Andrew marr with covid just not needing hospital.

walkingonsand · 19/12/2021 08:48

It's perhaps the message that is getting out to people through various media outlets as I've had many people coming into my surgery with the view that they now won't catch Covid due to being triple jabbed.

I haven’t seen anything implying you won’t get it after a booster.
