Question about Omicron

If Omicron does not attack the respiratory system, what are people being admitted to hospital with when they have the omicron sort of covid?

I know it won't be one thing only obviously, as it might effect people with pre-existing conditions etc.

Just wondered if anyone working directly in A and E/ ICU knows.

Not all covid admissions are because of respiratory issues.

Covid also had major cardiac and circulatory effect (may well precipitate admission) and is hostile to other organs, notably kidneys and liver (directly, as well as indirectly from low oxygen levels in the blood)

It is possible that omicron will replicate more slowly in the lungs than other variants do. And that might be one reason why some cases are milder. But unfortunately that's not the same as saying it does not attack the respiratory system. It does, and when that attack is severe enough to require hospitalisation, then there really won't be much difference in what is seen

The replication finding is still being studied and not fully understood yet.
