I had covid last year and only had mild symptoms this was before vaccine

I'm now double vaccinated and tested positive today. This time around I feel scared and anxious. I have aching bones and a cough with phlegm. Can anyone who has had it twice please reassure me.
I'm scared as to why I have caught it twice, I know it's probably from my primary school aged children but still very anxious

I think it's an anxiety-inducing time with the media frenzy around omicron. Try not to worry - you've had it before so you know you will recover. Just take it a day at a time and don't think about what might happen until it does. Remember for most people it's mild - it's likely to be so for you especially since you've had it before. Look after yourself.

Thank you @Cindercat
I just feel like crying and I think it being over Christmas isn't helping

@bananaandoears I feel very similar to you. My symptoms first time were worse than mild but not life threatening etc. They are very mild this time, so far, but I too feel very tearful/anxious & similar to you. I have been in touch with friends and family today to let them now how emotional I am feeling and their responses have helped.
Hope you feel better very soon and are able to enjoy Christmas, even if you are still isolating, as I have to.

Ive had it twice and know several people who have. Its unfortunately not that unusual. I dont know anyone who has had a mild case the first time and a severe one the second, though I've known some who've felt pretty rough. The people I know who've had it post vaccine say that they had an accelerated case, so better within a week rather than two. So fingers crossed you'll be mostly recovered on the 25th.

Treatment for covid is so much now. Should you need it. There is even preventative medication available for some.

We tested positive on lft yesterday and did pcr today. Today is Lion King day, at our house. After each film we do an activity. So far, we baked a cake and made lion masks.
My dc are young so it is easy to find something to do we can all enjoy (for few days anyway).

We did pcr after breakfast at 8am.

I find filling time up helps with anxiety.

If you recovered before you had a vaccine, you'll almost certainly be fine now you've both been vaccinated and your body's got some natural immunity, even if that wasn't enough to stop you getting infected.

This sounds lovely, such a nice thing to watch the film then make Lion King themed things! I hope you’re all ok. It’s so reassuring to read about the treatments too.

Hi Op you commented on my thread about this, and like you I also believe I had it in March 2020 but they weren’t testing back then. Let’s hope the vaccines will help us and we can get through this quickly. Sending hugs and solidarity! 💕

eggcustard1 · 24/12/2021 08:11

@bananaandoears how are you? My symptoms didn't get too bad, I am still coughing but had the 2 negative LFTs so ok to come out of isolation with the new 7 day rules. I hope you are doing ok?

PixelatedLunchbox · 24/12/2021 09:54

A friend of mine (teacher) had it in March and has it again. She has been less ill this time. First time was before vaccination, this time, double vaxxed and three weeks away from getting booster. I think Covid is definitely not a "one and done" disease, unfortunately.

Cornettoninja · 24/12/2021 10:02

Try to regroup and reframe this. It’s highly unlikely that you will be seriously ill and if you were you would be able to access help. Yes the NHS is struggling but they’re not turning away people at the door, if you’re in need of help you’ll get it, just perhaps not as quickly as you’d hope.

Also it’s winter, a virus that gives you a phlegmy cough and aches isn’t wholly unexpected over the winter months. This might be covid but as things stand you’re not experiencing anything particularly unusual. You’re unlucky to be experiencing a reinfection right now, but that does give you great odds at fighting it off.

Try to rest up and not think too far ahead on the ‘what if’s’. Being ill over Christmas sucks generally, but it really isn’t the end of the world.

I hope you’re feeling better soon Flowers
