When do we think that the 'wfh if you can' guidance will end?

Just trying to plan my life for 2022 Grin!
My understanding that the wfh edict was for an initial 3 weeks from 13 December with a review after three weeks and then I seem to be hearing rumours of another three weeks expected after that. So does anyone think we'll be back to wfo from 3 January? Or more likely 24 January? Or something totally different?

I'm working on assumption March/spring time, but that's just personal opinion based on the mood music.

Taswama · 17/12/2021 16:00

Read somewhere that plan B measures will last until at least 25 Jan but will be reviewed before that.

Youngatheart00 · 17/12/2021 16:01

I reckon March, April.

It will then have been two whole years WFH save for a few days this autumn back in the office (our firm have been ULTRA cautious and pretty much missed the boat)

Firefliess · 17/12/2021 16:06

I'm hoping the end of January, which would be 6 weeks on from when they started. But my employer is clearly less optimistic than me as they've cancelled all desk bookings until the end of February. Had a meeting yesterday to plan an in person launch event for something in late March, but the event planner was nervous about whether it would be allowed. :(

If deaths don't go up then end of Jan. Remember a lot of people will have boosters soon and the 12-15yr olds get second jabs any day now.
If things are bad then mid March.

BarbaraofSeville · 17/12/2021 16:39

Depends on your employer and your job. Some people are never going back, some have never WFH, whether or not it was possible.

EmmaStone · 17/12/2021 16:49

TBH, I'm still going to go in - working collaboratively with my team gets things done quicker than having to book a meeting for every little thing, and I already get hundreds of emails a day - I'd rather reduce that by a quick, spoken query/answer where possible.

I'm generally doing half my week at home, half at the office, so I'm continuing that pattern.

I like to see people, my colleagues are fun, they're friends, I have a junior I'm trying to train up which is so much harder remotely, and our company has seen huge structural change recently. Coming to the office helps with a bit of stability and reassurance that it's all going to be ok in the end.

Are you in England?

I’m Scotland and it’ll be longer I imagine.

FawnFrenchieMum · 17/12/2021 16:52

I’m thinking it will be the advice until March / April but loads of people are not following it this time. Lots more people going into our offices for 2/3 days a week.

Dozer · 17/12/2021 16:53

Employers will have different policies.

MsFogi · 17/12/2021 17:27

I'm asking because my employer simply follows government guidance so just trying to second guess the brilliant Boris!

I'm assuming sometime after Easter, but no-one knows.

SickAndTiredAgain · 17/12/2021 17:36

If I had to guess, I’d say the government advice won’t change in Jan or Feb.
I’d guess the same about masks.

audweb · 17/12/2021 17:37

I’m in Scotland. It’s never ending. Been home since March 2020, I think we will easily get to March 2022 and then even longer.

I understand the reasons and in some ways it’s been ok, in other ways it’s awful and not good for my mental health. It is what it is.

Chanel05 · 17/12/2021 17:41

I reckon spring, simply when flu season is over.

DH works for someone who helps to come up with and promote these work from home guidelines... his employed doesn't believe in working from home when it comes to their own staff!

Largethighsbadeyes · 17/12/2021 17:41

I think end of March. Article on BBC NEW saying that vaccines only 80% effective against preventing severe disease so i think we will have restrictions until they roll out the booster that's tweaked for Omicron.
