Hi,

My DH hasn't tested positive on PCR (yet) but he has a positive lft and raging symptoms so we're assuming he has it.

His temperature is 39.2 and he's had x2 paracetamol and x2 ibuprofen and it hasn't come down. All windows are open and he's having plenty of drinks and even a lolly ice to try help but nothing is working.

The symptoms only started this morning but I've never seen him so poorly.

Any advice?

Thanks so much x

Rest. Calm. Fluids. Eat a little if he can. Keep up the meds.
Get hold of an oximeter if you haven't got one.

Is he vaccinated? If so he will, in all likelihood, be fine. But he MUST rest.
And you must take care of you, too.

Chocolatecoatedkettlebell · 17/12/2021 15:51

111 are set up to triage and look after covid patients from home. If you are worried call them and let them assess him. I was cared for remotely by my covid hub and it was very reassuring.

maa32 · 17/12/2021 16:34

Thank you so much, will they treat him even if his PCR results aren't back yet? His LFTs are faint (I'll attach pics) but he's sooo symptomatic

He's double jabbed and young/healthy which is why I'm quite scared about how poorly he is. We have a 2yr old and 4mth old too Sad

This was EXACTLY my DH two weeks ago. 39.2 temp and NOT a happy bunny. Negative LFT's as well. I was in a bit of a flap a bout it but DD reminded me to get an ice watery tea towel on his forehead and back on neck and he was soooo much more comfortable. It REALLY helped.
He had 3 nights of really really awful victorian style night sweats then cam through. Triple vaxxed.
Subsequently, btw, me and DD have confirmed covid.

heldinadream · 17/12/2021 16:52

Please if you're that worried ring them. I'm sure they'll take you seriously without a PCR result.

If neither of you have experienced serious illness before you could easily be much more scared than it warrants but you need proper professional assessment and reassurance. I hope he's ok OP and I'm as sure as I can be that being double jabbed he will get better, but it can indeed be very nasty.

Sorry about the typos.
He also had a bit of a cough, sneezy nasty head cold and bunged up ears. Horrid.

This is so true, if you are young you may never have even had flu, not to mention the fact that so many dismiss covid as no worse than a cold that it can be a bit of a shock to realise that's not true for everyone. Medically speaking "mild" symptoms mean not needing hospital but you can still be very unwell. Get advice and an oximeter.
Hope he feels better soon.

maa32 · 18/12/2021 16:19

PCR was negative, he's soooo sick. Temperature is reaching 40 but comes down to 38 with paracetamol and ibuprofen

OP posts:
heldinadream · 18/12/2021 16:45

Has a doc or medic seen or assessed him? 40 is high poor man and you need reassurance from somewhere knowledgeable. Just because it's not showing as covid doesn't mean he's not ill does it? Talk to 111. Hope he's better soon OP.

bananaandoears · 18/12/2021 16:52

@maa32

The lateral flows look negative to me. There are a lot of awful virus going around at the moment and also flu. If you are still worried though definitely phone 111. Hope he starts feeling better soon x

maa32 · 18/12/2021 17:00

I've phoned 111 they said as long as it's coming down with medication, to keep doing what we're doing for now and they have a doctor phoning us

FrownedUpon · 18/12/2021 17:03

It sounds like flu. It can be really nasty. Has he had the flu vaccine?

Change123today · 18/12/2021 17:04

I think there might be a virus going around, your husband symptoms sound like my 12 yr old daughters.
Temp 39.1, literally went downhill very y (within a few hours) . We on day 3 now temp still high (being managed) headache sore throat.
Negative PCR. We spoke to out of hours doctor on Thursday night as we couldn’t get her temp down they said it could be covid or virus. Confirmed negative yesterday evening, spoke to 111 again today can’t see any spots on throat so unlikely tonsillitis. It’s just a watch and wait :( she is very very poorly (been sick as well) drinking water snoozing in bed with calpol and ibuprofen.
I think with the whole covid thing (which then panicked us as she went downhill so fast) we’ve forgotten that bugs/viruses etc exists we’ve just been living in a fake bubble.
Hopefully he gets better soon Flowers

maa32 · 18/12/2021 17:24

His throat is red raw (only started about an hour ago) and he's shakey and weak and dizzy. His temp is creeping back up but he's regularly taking meds. He had a bit more of an appetite today too which is good

rrhuth · 18/12/2021 17:29

Do you have a pulse oximeter or any friends who would lend you one? If you get hold of one and see that the oxygen level is good it is helpful, just for reassurance.

This page is very usefula nd tells you when to phone GP/111 www.nhsinform.scot/illnesses-and-conditions/infections-and-poisoning/fever-in-adults

maa32 · 18/12/2021 17:31

@rrhuth I have one on the way, SIL is dropping one off now

This is good.

Try not to panic, but also phone for help if you have worries.

Onehotmess · 18/12/2021 17:38

I’d be tempted to do another PCR now symptoms are well established. If the 2nd is negative you then can rule out Covid and this sounds like the flu unfortunately. My kids had pos PCR, me and hobby took them both neg, we both did another 2 days later still negative, then I was admitted to hospital (not Covid related) but result was positive. Then hubby positive following day. Bear in mind we were al isolating together from dS being positive so we definitely caught it from the kids, it takes a while to show in PCR.

maa32 · 18/12/2021 18:22

Just got off the phone with the doctor and he told us to go for a second PCR as he said he shouldn't be getting faint lines on a lateral flow. He's advised us to carry on doing what we're doing and go for a PCR tomorrow, keep taking regular meds and keep hydrated.

DH is worn out, I think he'd fed up of me checking on him too but I've never seen him so sick.

Fully jabbed but not boosted yet, no flu jab so this could very likely be flu Sad

My husband has similar a couple of weekends ago. The temp was scary, couldn’t get it down at all.
He ended up with terrible loose stools for a week following, not Covid PCR negative. He was off work for a whole week, very unlike him.

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/12/2021 18:39

Are you alternating the meds so its never more than two hours between doses?

So 10am paracetamol, 12 noon ibuprofen, 2pm paracetamol and so on?
