I've signed up - not to give vaccines but as a steward, and submitted my ID.

Not heard anything back yet and just wondered if anyone else has?

I'm being impatient I know as I only signed up Monday Smile

I applied last August (2020) - done all the online training, vaccinator training, DBS done, ready to go

Still haven’t done a single fucking shift

Joisanofthedales · 17/12/2021 09:15

I signed up early this year as a steward. Only just getting a list of shifts but they are all over 20 miles away. No shifts available locally.

Ah ok! I answered 'the call' after Boris's speech this week. I imagine they've been inundated.

Shame about all your training though

Have to admit I’m rather pissed off about it

Online training was ~15 hours, then I had to trek into London to do face to face Angry

I'm quite interested in volunteering to be a steward in central London. I have zero skills but could answer questions and point people in the right direction etc.

However I'm mid 40s CV and have basically been shielding / at home alone (no kids or partner) most of the past 18 months.

So on the one hand I'm isolated with some free time and wanting to help in some way. But on the other hand aware of my quite vulnerable life situation and that maybe staying home is best thing I should do.

I wonder, have many stewards contracted Omicron during the course of their duties? I guess it must happen since they are inside a lot / mixing with hundreds of people.

Also, is there that much demand for unskilled stewards anyway?

oneglassandpuzzled · 17/12/2021 15:25

I've been an unskilled steward since January, now 'promoted' to other admin at times, too. Often I help frail patients in and out or reassure the nervous. Sometimes I tick off lists and write cards.

Some of best stewards I've seen are people who wouldn't have said they had any skills at all, but are patient, kind and observant.

Willingness to helpwith anythingand a sense of humour will get you a long, long way.
