Would you still go on a weekend break to London before Christmas?

Just that really, we’re due to go for a short break a couple of days before Christmas but I’m currently weighing it up and contemplating postponing given the current covid circumstances…

It would depend where I was staying, whether I was planning on seeing family over Christmas and things like that. The rates of Omicron in London just now are very high. You could mostly do things outdoors (if it doesn't rain) but it depends what you had planned. It's so tough for the hospitality sector though, I'm sure things will be quieter than usual.

Milomonster · 16/12/2021 20:47

If triple vaccinated and taking precautions, I’d go.

Boosterquery · 16/12/2021 20:49

No, Omicron rates are currently way higher in London than the rest of the UK.

FrownedUpon · 16/12/2021 20:50

No. Levels are very high here now. I’d avoid if I could.

RedWingBoots · 16/12/2021 20:50

Nope.

Stay away.

I'm in London and I'm acutely aware hospitality businesses in London need your money but unfortunately a large amount of the Covid cases in London are apparently the omicron variant.

StrawberryJamSandwiches · 16/12/2021 20:51

Personally, I wouldn't. My office and colleagues are in London (I'm based elsewhere) and there are so many that have caught covid, and know of so many with covid. Not through mixing at work, most are home based. London really is rife atm. I'm not one to listen to hype etc, these are just my own personal opinion from the people within my circle Smile

waterrat · 16/12/2021 20:53

For me it depends on how much it would matter to you if you got covid.. if you don't mind the isolation then go for it. It won't make you very unwell. I live in London am surrounded by people with covid its mainly very mild

cinnamonswirll · 16/12/2021 20:54

I’m doing the same in a few days and thought everyone was going to say go for it. I live 45 minutes from central London anyway and can’t see us cancelling but watching with interest.

We are double vaxxed and wouldn’t be overly bothered if had to have a quiet Christmas.

Iamanicepersonreally · 16/12/2021 20:54

Absolutely no way

Nitgel · 16/12/2021 20:54

Yes I go most weekends, only thing stopping me is the tube strike

Joystir59 · 16/12/2021 20:56

I'm going.

Mosaic123 · 16/12/2021 20:56

Are you crazy?

What if you end up with Long Covid?

hellsbells99 · 16/12/2021 20:56

I wouldn’t, especially if you have plans for Christmas

cherin · 16/12/2021 20:58

You kidding? I’m in London and would do anything to bugger off, but can’t because DS2 has just been pinged.
It’s a Petri dish of virus. Super high rates and tons of people maskless around.

MarcelineMissouri · 16/12/2021 21:01

Unlike pretty much everyone who’s posted so far, I would and indeed am! We are staying for the night and have a meal booked and also Christmas afternoon tea at the Ritz. I can’t wait. It is unavoidable that cases will reach London levels all over the country within days. Not going will not make a difference to that.

Sfuandtired · 16/12/2021 21:06

Thank you for all the responses, very much putting it into perspective for me, we’re a family of 4 with 2 children and DH is keen to cancel, and after reading the comments I’m going to go along with his wishes, especially as it was purely a break and we’re not planning on family.

OP posts:
neveradullmoment99 · 16/12/2021 21:13

Absolutely not.

CrumpledCrumpet · 16/12/2021 22:00

It’s bad already and given the rate it’s growing, in a week everyone in London will have it!

We’re in outer London and have a couple of things planned before Christmas in central London, debating whether to cancel.

Tealightsandd · 16/12/2021 22:24

I'd say it depends. If you're planning any other outings - even just locally and/or if your children are still in school, etc.

The experts have already said it's going to spread across the country soon - so if you're going out anyway, going to London might not make much difference to your level of risk.

Obviously it depends on your individual family circumstances, i.e. are any of you CV?

If you're all vaccinated, relatively young, healthy and out and about anyway, you could think about going ahead with the trip. Wear masks in crowded places, take sensible precautions.

If you do go, I hope you have a lovely time. I understand your caution, however. You need to do whatever you feel most comfortable with.
